If you could describe your head size in a vegan manner what would you estimate?
    1) a Crenshaw
    2) a Midori or Musk Mellon
    3) a Medium seedless watermelon

Or you can just give it to in inches. What color do you want?

I would never describe my head in any other way. I'd say, Musk Mellon. And what kind of cupcake do you want?

congratulations on the book--quite an accomplishment.

but, pardon my ignorance, vegan cupcakes? why? i mean, is a couple of eggs or a bit of butter the worst thing in a recipe that uses sugar by the cup? what's the point exactly?

Isa, I just thought about this, do you wear wool and/or silk? I can use cotton/bamboo instead. And what color do you like?

That's OK, for me, it's not about health (believe you me!), it's about avoiding dairy and eggs for ethical reasons.

I prefer not to. I didn't want to say anything for fear of sounding like an asshole, thanks for asking. I like all colors (black!).

i think i might be able to persuade my 'almost' vegan better half (aka wife) to finally venture out to freddy's for this most excellent occasion. i mean who doesn't like cupcakes regardless of what they're made of.

Thanks for posting this info, Isa!
I bought your book at MooShoes in late October, so that I could make cupcakes for my birthday party... and I would love to taste one of yours, because I don't think mine are all that a vegan cupcake can be. :)
    Congrats on the gorgeous book!

tell me more. say we're talking about eggs from free-range hens raised on organic feed and butter from pasture-roaming cows. unethical because. . . ?

This is tomorrow night! Hope that I see some of you there. I think it's going to be packed.

Smokin' Joe, my short answer is that animal agriculture is not ethically sound on a large scale. If you are keeping chickens and cows and not pumping them up to be egg/milk machines then that is different, but I feel like since it is possible to live without consuming animal products then that is the most ethical choice so that's what I do. Right now "free range" is not a term that is regulated in any way and as it stands "free range" animals aren't necessarily treated any better.

Here is a not too long article about animals living in free range conditions and general vegan propoganda that sums things up pretty well.

Isa, your cupcakes were incredible! I made you a pastry-inspried hat and dropped it off at Freddy's. 100% cotton/HW only, fits one standard musk melon. Ask the bartender for it. Cheers.

I tried 2, offered to me by Isa's "cupcake bitch" (that's what Isa called her, before you all get mad at me). They were quite tasty, and I never would have guessed that they were vegan if I hadn't been told, which I think is really impressive.

    Thanks, Isa! :D

The cupcakese were super delicious and moist. and the espresso bean on top of the chocolate ones [supplied by free-trade coffee growers, i assume?] was a great surprise, i assumed that it was just a chocolate jellybean. Entertaining bands, to boot. good luck with the book sales!

I swear to god that I'm not stalking you Isa, but I just got an email from Goodreads, and now you've done been selected as their Author of the Month! Sweet! Congrats!

    From the email -
    Goodreads Author of the Month
Say hello to Goodreads user and the country's best-selling vegan cookbook author, Isa Chandra Moskowitz. In 2005 the Brooklynite penned Vegan with a Vengeance: Over 150 Delicious, Cheap, Animal-free Recipes That Rock. By ditching baking staples like eggs and milk, Isa uses cruelty-free alternatives to create food that is self-indulgent but guilt-free. Her punk-rock flare and experimental techniques have caught the attention of The New York Times and The Washington Post. Check out her newest book, Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World: 75 Dairy-Free Recipes for Cupcakes that Rule, and learn to whip up vegan confections like Tiramisu cupcakes and "Dulce Sin Leche." Isa’s cupcakes aren't only taking over the world, but they are winning the hearts (and tummies) of Goodreads users. Melissa says, "Isa is my goddess," while Camille thinks that the cookbook is "one of the most amazing and diverse collections of cupcakes -- vegan or non -- in the world."
