will Sunset Park be gentrified?

    If by gentrification you mean more white people, then yes, that is happening now. What makes SP different however is that many of the working class, asian or latino people own their homes. Many of them came here when SP was very dangerous and property values were dirt cheap, and through their ownership they have cleaned the place up. If these people are displaced, then its with a windfall profit.

    Williamsburg and LES were always characterized by cheap tenements, and these type of neighborhoods are the most susceptible to rapid gentrification. There is a lot of redundancy in SP as every block has the same mix of stores (a taqueria, 99 cent store and random electronics). I wouldn't mind seeing more economic diversity, but hopefully not at the expense of ethnic diversity. I am confident that the latter will not happen in my lifetime though, for reasons stated above.
