    Maybe we misunderstood each other. I think we do have the same accent.
    Do you pronounce the first syllable to rhyme with ma and pa, or raw?

    Yes I do.
    :?
    Which one?

    LOL !

    They all make the same aaaw to me.

    Wa in water rhymes with pa and ma.

    Raw?? Would sound like wow-der. :)
    I pronounce 'water' to rhyme with 'slaughter'.

    Two different sounds:
    1) Ma, Pa, hot, blob, snot
    2) raw, ought, water, slaughter
    Em26 wrote: Raw?? Would sound like wow-der. :)
    Not at all. "wow-der" would rhyme with 'chowder'.

    Laundry = Lawn-dree ( dree rhymes with tree)

    Chocolate = Choc-lit ( choc rhymes with talk?? I think.)

    Cauliflower = Call-ee-flower

    I would pronounce them the same way.

    What about:
    caramel (I say 'carmel')
    almond (I say 'all-mund', but I've heard some people say 'ammund')
    aunt (I say 'ant', same as the insect)

    I say them all the same , except almonds = all-mends

    Actually since that second vowel is pretty much a schwa for me, I suppose sometimes I might say it more like 'mend' or 'min' ... but if I say it carefully it's "-mund".

    I never say it carefully , I just spit it out.

    Usually I'm talking about Almond Joys , Mmmmmm.

    I messed up , the caramel.

    I don't say carmel , I say ca-ra-mel. 3 syllables in mine , not 2.

    Jool - ree , like BigGuy. :)

    My husbands mom - straight outta Fortworth Texas , and my brothers inlaws are from Arkansas. They all grew up in those states but have lived in Jersey and Michigan for years and years.

    They still talk like this though:

    Sandwich = Sam-werch or Sam-erch??

    Fingers = Fang-ers

    Idea - I-deer

    LOL , I crack up when I hear that!! My nephew started picking up that damn accent , and I had to straighten him out. :x
