Anyone know what is going on there? (Across Bergen from the old House Broken store).

I believe it is going to be a beer and sausage place...that's what I was told by someone at the location one day.

This is right next to my Artists Studio building, I've peeked inside, it's beautiful and minimal. Been told it's the same owners as "Moes".

It's going to be a Mexican joint, from what I've been told. And opening soon.

In fact, I asked one of the owners about it, and he said, "A Mexican restaurant. And Bar. Actually more of a bar."

    Sounds good to me.

Maybe we're talking about different locations but the store formerly the flower shop at Vanderbilt and Bergen just opened yesterday as an ice cream/coffee/bagel shop. There's another thread about it.

I asked at the hardware store across the street yesterday and they said sausages.

I think PensOddysey would know, he's closer to it.

I haven't spoken to them really since the project began, so perhaps they've changed. Who knows?

I would welcome either option, anything will be better than the church that was the previous tenant, who provided all the noise of a bar with none of the opportunities to get drunk and make an ass of yourself.

I heard bar from one of the owners a few weeks ago, but if they're serving up food even better!

And pensodyssey, your J-Dogg signature brought back so many memories of my laugh cramps after reading this Harpers story so many years ago. Thanks for the bit of nostalgia.

I hope they have something besides sausage. I'm more of a burger girl.

Ok, I spoke to the owners this afternoon, while watching incredibly beautiful ironwork grills being installed over the windows of the facade. The official word on what type of food they will be serving is: they don't know yet! They're still mulling over the menu.

in case those owners are reading this, i vote for spicy, authentic-ish mexican. (i particularly love chilaquiles, so if you could make that, great.) me and my inappropriately-large dining out budget will thank you again and again.

Subject: new bar's a comin' on Vanderb.

just peeked into that corner place on Vanderbilt and Bergen, the one with the cool new peacock leaves made out of metal on the windows (attn local business owners: it IS possible to be creative and protect your business at the same time, AND contribute to the local aesthetic). It's a bar, with cute scoopy round red tufted booths on the inside...looks like it will be cozy and intimate....hopefully a more mellow alternative to Soda Bar.

Mod note: This post was a separate new thread, but since this thread was already going on this topic I merged it. (And thanks for peeking in, Bricktop -- I agree that the ironwork on the windows is *gorgeous*!)

I would really love for there to be someplace a little more loungey and grown-up around here. I sometimes miss Half for that reason, even though it had its problems. Soda et al. just make me feel old!

To me, Beast and Sepia are too old, Soda's too big and Smith St-ish, Flatbush Farm is too polished, Ripple's just alright. I wish the new place could carry over some of the old Indigo spirit.

    LOL!

I like Beast, but it's not very comfortable to camp out at with a group at the bar, and Sepia is always ultra-mobbed when I've been there. Flatbush Farm could be about right, but they have those huge tables that you can't hear other people across.

Speak up, sonny, I'm getting old!

ha actually I went into Mooney's for the first time the other day and had a blast. I thought the beer would be cheaper though. Their jukebox is also awesome.

Also flatbush farm needs to add some beer thats not 6 dollars a pint but I guess thats their thing. I would love to live in that building.

This place is open - I just stopped in tonight. If you guessed "ice cream" you win!

The name is "The Old Brooklyn Parlor" or maybe it had "Fountain" in the name - it was kind of forgettable. The idea is milkshakes, egg creams, ice cream, and some homemade lemonade that looked tempting. Also, they use Ronnybrook Farm dairy which we all know is both local and delicious. Seeing as how this place is quite new I wonder if they will continue to keep just a couple of flavors each of ice cream, sorbet and "icees" on hand or if they plan to expand the ice cream menu. Didn't see much room in the freezer to add more flavors.

I had a cone of Coconut Macademia Nut Ice Cream. It was an interesting flavor although it definately tasted of cocononut more than macademia nuts. The server's Ssprinkle-adding technique was piss-poor but at least he didn't charge for them. I've always believed that sprinkles ought to be free! I'm very excited to return and try more items from the Fountain side of the menu.

Hey Cupcake...The Autocrat: where can I get some? Thanks!

Yeah, I'm talking about the bar (at least that's what we all think it is going to be), directly on the corner of Vandy and Bergen.

    Hope it opens soon...I'm curious.

Oops. Sorry. I saw ice cream and got real excited.

As for Autocrat - I don't know where you can buy any around here! I'm from RI myself where you can still find it in every supermarket. You can buy Autocrat online, or Ronnybrook Farms makes a good coffee milk that you can usually buy at the Farmer's Market at Grand Army Plaza. Hang in there.
