Wow...we had one of those, and if I was seen in that area of the yard it was BIG trouble. Glad it ended well, although you must have been quite a sight afterwards...

I was pretty lucky, all things considered -- and also very lucky that I had NO idea at the time what it was that I was in.

It totally ruined my white turtleneck and my yellow pantsuit with the clown applique on the front pocket. My mom made me strip down and then hosed me down in the front yard before putting me in a bath liberally doused with Bactine.

I've been misleading everyone with my avatars all along. I'm not a Fox 5 reporter or a drooling alien news anchor or 50 Cent. And I don't have a spiky metal ball on a chain for smacking people with. But really, with my immense moderatorial powers, do I need one?

Ummm, wow, that's, ummm, very disturbing...my mom caught me eating worms in the backyard once - I was like three so it wasn't as troublesome say if I were older - probably doesn't compete though with the whole bombing of buildings thing though, huh?

When I was like three we had these in the backyard:

Eating one of those would have been troublesome, let me tell you.

Ewww - what is that?! I was actually thinking troublesome though in the sense that if I were 16 and my mom found me eating worms in the backyard... well, that would be a little stranger. Although in comparsion to what I did do in the backyard when I was 16 she might have preferred the worm eating...Ahhhh, youth...

I once got kicked out of a club where we were the support act, narrowly avoiding a jolly good head kicking, for dousing a

For some reason it didn't occur to me, and it's a bit of a hassle to organise a platform, drag the stuff out, etc., plus they aren't fond of burning plastic... but it sure would look cool. We could call it the Death of Techno -- hundreds of cheapo 80s keyboards going up in style.

Yes, very very far from here. In this recent thread is an artwork drawn from the perspective of someone exactly above the neighborhood in and around which these critters live, side-by-side with hundreds of thousands of people. In the early 80s after I left, they discovered an antivenin, and no one has died since. But in those days, adults who were bitten sometimes didn't survive, let alone kids (and they're aggressive and will bite right through clothes or even a fingernail given the chance). This was drummed into us from the cradle -- look before touching stuff that's lying around, leave this particular spider alone, call an adult -- and bites were very rare, and funnily enough so are arachnophobes in those parts. Know your enemy, I guess.
