What do you do?

For a living and do you like it and is the pay good?

Just a general job type/satisfaction/pay survey of the folks in this hood.

Add any interesting commuting, cost of living, etc things you want.

I work in the banking industry in IT. Pretty boring. Pay is good. I used to work from home which was sweet but now in an office which suxors.

I read a similar thing on Craigslist a couple of years back and I was surprised about the outcome. Many folks with low income in good jobs. Or maybe that was just the bored Craigslist audience in those 2 weeks.

Anyway, I'm in online ad ops (advertising stuff). Not too well paid where I am at the moment, but with many benefits (European company). Definitely office job, too much computer work mostly. I like it though.

What I find interesting is how many people my age cannot afford living on their own. I would think that's a bare minimum to be able to swing that somehow without having to eat beans on toast every night. Then again, it may be a cultural thing. I'm definitely not used to it.

I skin cats, I love it, but I don't make much because I only know one way how to do it.

Teacher at a fancy-schmancy school uptown. Love it.

Account Executive for a content production company. Work mostly from an office in Times Square (ugh), but can work from home no problemo...and I travel a lot (which I like).

Pay is sucky, but I have a ton of freedom, which helps to make up for the lower pay.

I know what you mean about folks not being able to afford a place on their own. Luckily, I'm married, so the dual incomes can be shared for a one bedroom apartment. If I was single, I'd barely able to get by.

Sales, high-end audio. Lots more fun than "sales, lending" which was the previous (higher-paying) job. Knew I'd take a pay cut, at least for a while, but I couldn't get up and go to work in good spirits anymore. No suit, no tie. 100% commission. Still learning and building a client base; the pay's gettin' better all the time.

Absolutely nothing.

The pay is good , could be better though.

It gets boring sometimes.

I'll do something with myself sooner or later.

I'm a professional demagogue. So far I've only done contract work, and business is up and down -- still hunting for that ideal big permanent position. But I get to work with lots of different people, and they often appear to be grateful for my leadership, which is really satisfying.

What is considered good pay?

Wouldn't that be by your own definition?
Whatever $ you need to live your life comfortably (+ extra dosh maybe)
without having to live in the big mansion though.

sounds about right. I wish I could keep a mistress. the cats won't pay for her, though. they have these really puritanical rules.

(which is not to say that I'm at income levels slightly below keeping a mistress, btw, in case you were horrified. I just kinda want a mistress.)

work at a fashion magazine... and get paid basically enough to eat cereal everynight for dinner...

Engineering supervisor.

Work is alright, pay is alright. Beats working for my dad, not too shabby for a 23 year old.

crappy office job, crappy pay

journalist, writer and producer..for cable tv.. interesting work, mediocre pay, lots of flexibility and creativity

Banker is the paying job and head of a non-profit is the non-paying job

I am sort of in marketing. I write interactive applications for convention software, software that gets people into the booth and somehow grabs their information off of their convention cards so that whoever hires us can try to sell stuff to them.

I have a side job writing software for law firms and lenders/factors and anything else that I can get my hands on.

During the slow season, which is never, I whore for Dr. Fletcher.

If I didn't have kids, particularly a son attending out of state college, my side work would put me into the "pretty well" category. Instead, I live in an up and coming fringe area in no mans land.
