Not in Park Slope but in Brooklyn Heights - I see a doctor who I love named Mark Avram (if he isn't available I also see his brother David Avram). I had seen quite a few dermatologist before I found them and in comparison to the others they are fantastic. I also appreciate it when they give lots of samples when you leave so you don't spend so much on the prescriptions.

He is located at 115 1/2 Remsen Street (718) 852-4646

Have see Dr. Frankel and can recommend him... very nice guy and knows his stuff... often with dermatological stuff (rashes especially) it is important for the doc to see it when the outbreak is there not 2 weeks later and this Doctor makes appointments in a timely manner and his office runs on schedule so there are no huge waits..

I recommend Dr. Mark Tesser, at 24 Prospect Park West.

Mark has been a friend and my family's dermatologist for quite a few years. He is thorough, careful, and very insightful and empathetic. He correctly diagnosed a very unusual, potentially serious illness in my then-nine year old child (after other doctors had failed to do so), and helped my wife and myself maintain our sanity until further blood test results came back and provided some comfort.

I am going to him today (with a skin rash that is FREAKIN me out)
I heard wonderful things. He was recommended by Dr Frankels Office.

I am going to see him in his Manhattan office, which i dont mind. All the Brooklyn doctors I called were out on vacation or closing today at noon.

Why did Dr Frankel's office refer to him? Is Dr. Frankel out of town?

I have seen Zaleya... and he misdiagnosed a problem that I was having which sent me on a round of tests I really didn't need and a delay in a diagnosis that kept me uncomfortable for a lot longer than what would have been the case if he had thought outside the box. Can you tell I am not recommending him. His practice is heavy on cosmetic..Botox and such. His manner is pleasant enough. I am not saying that he is incompetent but compared to Dr. Frankel.. well there is no comparison.

I saw Dr Zalaya today, and his manner was very calm and very humble.
He gave me some Zyrtec for my rash, and recommended that I see him in his BK office next week for an allergy test.
Now that I read your comment above, I am worried.....

Dr Frankel was indeed out for the holidays.

That is strange! I saw him a couple of months ago and he had a busy practice. You might try walking in to see about making an appointment.

Dr. Frankel is the better doctor. I've seen them both. Zelaya's practice is mostly botox, and I remember years ago, they didn't take credit cards! I was like wut?! Frankel is the real deal, kind and informative. TRUSTWORTHY.

As I stated months ago.. I totally agree with that statement!

Dr. Zelaya actually looks like he uses Botox or something!!!

I saw Dr. Zelaya last year for a rash, which he treated quickly and appropriately. No complaints at all.

I tried to make another appointment recently for another issue and was told that he's only in his Brooklyn office one day a week and the next appointment was in a month. Nuh-uh.

Staff was distinctly not helpful, too.

I'll be looking for another derm who takes Empire Blue Cross.

wow, does he had his license back already? I know it was yanked for a while for negligence. I think he would have to be the last dermatologist on earth and I would have to have a bad rush to consider that option....

BTW Frankel is great. Just switched to him recently, very happy.

They never actually yanked his license, the three year suspension for negligence on more than one occasion and failure to maintain adequate medical records was stayed with a three year probation, which ended May 11, 2007. And he had to pay a $40k fine.

Got my appointment with Dr Frankel, thank you all. Didn't even have to go there - they just returned my call.

I saw Dr. Frankel last night and liked him very much. I did wait quite awhile (about 45 minutes) but he apologized more than once for running late - I find that very unusual for a doctor.

Dr Frankel's office runs close to your scheduled appointment. The once I waited for a while he was very apologetic and sincere about the apology. That is rare with many doctors. They come across like obviously your wasted hour is not important to them. I hope he does help you take care of the problem.

Veets, he did help me...he took care of what was on my face but referred me to a podiatrist because he doesn't do feet...he specifically liked this podiatrist because of his pathology testing.
I agree, the apology was very sincere...and he apologized twice - first when he came in, and again when the appointment was over.

I have a really good podiatrist I can recommend in the neighborhood. Bruce Freidlander.. 9th street right off the park.

I would assume all podiatrists do pathology testing. They take samples (scraping, fluid whatever) and send it to a lab.
