So, what is the deal with this place (supposedly opening on Vanderbilt)...where exactly will it be, and when exactly will it open?

I was noticing a promising little storefront in progress today that looked like it could have been the spot... the space next to that Claudines cleaners, across the street from joyce. Is that where its gonna be??? on Vandy between Prospect and Park?

To me, everything sounds great EXCEPT for the cocktails. I'll drink one occasionally, but I prefer beer or wine. Bars that specialize in cocktails are usually too chichi for me. Plus they tend to be expensive.

But cocktails are kind of the raison d'etre of Milk and Honey (and presumably this spinoff).

Subject: weathered up will take your money!!!

I know many of you are very excited about this new cocktail lounge opening up, but knowing my neighborhood and many of the people on this board who complain about soda and other bars lack service, expensive beer, lack of happy hour etc. How many of you will be happy paying $10 to $14 dollars for a cocktail, and god knows how much they will charge for an oyster? So i know most of you are big drinkers 4 cocktails plus tip about $50 dollars and throw in half a dozen oysters, make it $70 dollars, i know soda, Mooney's, Tavern, Barrette and even beast which is not my favorite are not top notch places, but with $70 bucks i can have more than 12 drinks plus buy backs, why waste money on this place that will rob you for a cocktail and will not be as welcoming as the other bars mentioned above? So my question is will this place for all the press and talk around it, will it succeed or will it fail at its own pretentiousness and vanity?

This place will be successful. No doubt. Not all of us go out and have four drinks. There are those of us who enjoy going for one or two quality drinks in a nice place and dont mind spending the money. Matter of fact I live in Crown Heights and my wife and I look forward to checking it out.

I will definitely be there. If the quality lives up to the prices, I'll be there a lot. If not, I won't.

I am happy with all of the above mentioned places, but I'm all for variety. My theory is, the more people get drawn in from outside the neighborhood, the better. Say they come once on the strength of Milk and Honey's reputation or a Time Out review? They'll probably come back to explore some of the other businesses. Or maybe start with one expensive cocktail and then move on. I wouldn't mind being able to get a splurgey kind of experience closer to home than Park Slope or Fort Greene.

Just because the Manhattan couterparts of this bar charge high prices does not necessarily mean that Weather Up will do the same. In the end, they are a business and if they overprice their product, people will stop going. This will force Weather Up to rethink their approach and adjust accordingly, as reducing prices is favorable to going out of business.

I also question whether the tendency to complain, so prevalent on these boards, is indicative of neighborhood sentiment. After all, most residents of Prospect Heights or Crown Heights, new or old, rich or poor, and regardless of race or gender, have never heard of Brooklynian.com.
