That's great news! We definitely need more live music in the hood... Bar Sepia has started having music every other Sunday or so, I saw a pretty good blues band there a few weeks ago.

Anyone know of anyplace else in P.Hgts w/ live music?

As someone who will have to live across the street from the alleged faux hick emporium I would urge the community board to go easy on the liquor licenses. How many bars do we really need on Vanderbilt? And if it happens... and ya'll don't keep your voices down you're gonna catch an egg in your ten gallon hat. So, put that in your corn cob pipe and smoke it.

PS Beast is unprofessional, unfriendly, overpriced and overrated. Go ahead... I have miles of anecdotes to convince you. Like the time me and my girl couldnt take a seat at the bar and eat cuz staff was just hangin out there... or after spending 80 dollars on champagne on a sunday afternoon being told that we should get going before the kitchen opened at 6:00.

I'd rather they rent out a few of those empty units and give some people some affordable homes.

I think that this place could succeed if it followed the proven formula of Hogs and Hiefers and the Village Idiot:

    (1) focus on older country and western music (e.g. Hank Sr., Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Kitty Wells, etc.), with a healthy mix of country-style rock, such as Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Flying Burrito Brothers.

    (2) make sure that the jukebox features David Alan Coe's "You Never Even Call Me by My Name"

    (3) tequila shots with the sugar licked of the patron's body

    (4) copious amounts of lingerie tied to the ceiling

    (5) hot bartenders

Either way, I am happy to hear about this. It's a sign that Vanderbilt Avenue is finally taking off. Since Barrette opened, I've been spending more time in the 'hood, which is great, because it can get tiresome trekking to more developed strips (Williamsburg, Fifth Avenue, etc.)

man, i'd love it if they had good live music -- of the old-timey or bluegrass variety, preferably.

i'm less into mechanical bulls and other kitsch. i can go either way on bras hanging from the ceiling.

sadly, no. I've been out of town lately and haven't had a chance to get an update. I could stop by beast tonight for more info tonight before other events.
