Size-wise BAM is comparable to many of the local venues bands like these play.

But the classic theaters/ballrooms/halls have much more extensive networks for booking rock bands. (The Kings' Theatre is new but clearly putting a lot of resources into their scheduling and clearly targeting indie and indie-like bands.)

And ultimately these venues are just a better cultural and aesthetic fit for these bands. BAM is more a high performing art center.  Classic theaters are a more typical indie venue.

I believe the public's next chance to see the inside of the theater for free is on March 16th: http://www.nycedc.com/blog-entry/nycedc-and-untapped-cities-go-behind-scenes-nycs-most-prized-assets

    no kim deal, though!
    I know.  :-(

Still... Frank Black + Kings Theatre.  Not bad.

I'm not the biggest fan, but I got Sufjan tickets too.  Having this place nearby, with the bands they are getting right out of the gate, is so great.
Sufjan can walk over from his home too!

I noticed there is a nice empty lot adjacent to the theater. Maybe outdoor patio seating is in the future?

    Maybe.

I only know that Ms. Whynot and I noticed there was a poster plastered to a construction fence on Washington advertising that Garrison Keillor was soon coming to Kings Theater, and that we could not resist commenting that this was far different that the posters which until very recently adorned our construction sites: Curvy women in bikinis advertising nightclubs.

Damn, is it one or the other?

One year later, local businesses are feeling the effect. http://www.crainsnewyork.com/article/20160603/REAL_ESTATE/160609963
