The demise of Syd's Sandwich shop was discussed in detail here:   http://www.brooklynian.com/discussion/44467/no-more-syds-serious-sandwiches/p1

Now, it is time to talk about what will come next for 759 Nostrand.

We've previously heard that a latin cafe may be coming to this space, now we are hearing that a coffee shop is likely

"I saw a counter culture coffee sign in the window of the old Syd's space. I think this is a good 'sign' of things to come."

Can we get a more recent photo? One of said sign?

Whatever it becomes, it will be one of many new establishments slated to open on Nostrand in CH before June 1.     Here's an index thread of the ones we are presently aware of:

It does seems like a lot of coffee advertising for something that will be a cafe.

And, everyone is right! We are getting a latin cafe that is a coffeeshop.

    Colina Cuervo cafe

They have a website shell up: http://www.colinacuervo.com/

Looks like we are getting a latin cafe with lots of coffee.

Feels like the old days of current Franklin retail where things were opening up every few weeks

This post should be renamed Colina Cuervo, not Guervo (C not a G).

Colina Cuervo in Spanish translates to "Crow Hill", like the neighborhood.

I got a coffee and muffin today from Colina Cuervo! It is a gorgeous space -- simple, elegant, feels like a real cafe. An 8 oz coffee is $1, a 12 oz coffee is $2, and a 16 oz coffee is $2.50, which I think are great and fair prices for such delicious coffee. Pastries are reasonably priced as well. Empanadas are $5! I can't wait to try them.

Also, the owner, Jorge, lives in the neighborhood with his family and is a really nice man. All of the employees were welcoming. I wish Jorge and his staff the best of luck.

Anyone know what Syd is up to now?  Hope he's doing well.  Good guy.  Hated to see his place fail.

I dropped in this morning and got a coffee. It was so delicious. Best in the neighborhood by far. Looks like l'll be stopping by every morning on my way to the train.

I dropped in today. Really nice place.

Unfortunately they were out of 1/2 of the (food) menu, I'll try again next week.

The coffee is great, but this place needs to figure out the pricing on their empanadas and tamales FAST or I don't see myself ever eating the food here again.

I went with a buddy and he got an empanada that was 5 bucks and about 3 inches long (he ate it in 2 bites easily), it should at least be 2 empanadas for $5. The pork tamale was decent but was $4.50 which also felt overpriced.

I always think of empanadas being $2-3. $5 is really pricey. For a comparable snack, good sized tacos at Chavelas are $3 and $2 during happy hour.

The coffee is so so good! $1 for 8 ounces is good with me.

@Crownheightster....if 8 oz is $1 and 16 oz is $2.50 aren't you better off getting two 8 oz for $2 ?? Owners need to learn how to multiply.

:) I think owner's count on us not wanting to juggle two cups of coffee!

I'd buy the two and pour them into one 16 oz travel mug just to piss them off.

$1 quality coffee is a steal. It's 50c at most bodegas but that tends to be closer to mud than coffee

Especially when the Colombian place down the street by Key Food has BANGING empanadas for $3.00 that are much bigger than 3 inches long...lol

I was in today and yesterday - this place is a gem! Everyone who works there is so friendly and the coffee is incredible. As I was sitting there, one of the baristas brought a second cappucino to the man next to me and said, "I was afraid the first one I made you was a bit watery so I brought you a new one." and the guy was like, "oh, it tasted just fine to me but thanks!!"
I mean, you don't see that in manhattan very often...

I stopped by today and had a beef empanada to go because I was in a hurry. This might have been the best damn thing I have eaten in many many months. The sauces are out of this world. Or maybe I was just really hungry. Either way, it was the most enjoyable eating experience I've ever had while waiting for a bus. It's a bummer they are 5 bucks a pop but I think they maybe worth it.
The place is beautiful and the coffee is strong and smooth.

In terms if pure aesthetics, I prefer Coliba Cuervo to Two Saints - it really feels like a cafe, wheatears Two Saints feels more like a bar/bistro. I love Colonas clean and elegant design.
