Lawrence F. Shea

My name is Sebastiaan Vonk and I am 14 years old and I'm living in the Netherlands. In August of this year I have adopted the grave of Lawrence F. Shea. With help from other people I found information about. Here some data:

He was a corporal of the 80th Division and he died at 2 April 1945 in Kassel, Germany.

I have do many research and today had I a mail with the adress were he lived for the war: 749 President Street, New York City, New York USA. With help of Google I know that this adress lays in Park Slope. I hope that somebody me can give a picture of this building and me can say who here lives at the moment.

It's an 8-unit property with the current owner listed as Labrador, Roberto Q Jr.

I am curious about the background of this project? Is it common for Dutch students to 'adopt the grave' of a US soldier who died in WWII? Please tell us more.

No, it is not only for Dutch students. Everybody can adopt a grave of an American soldier who is buried on the American Cemetry Margraten.
You go a few times to his grave to lay flowers.

I don't think you can hotlink it. You have to copy it and post it to an image-hosting site and then link it.

yes, it's an apartment building
do you have an apt # for your guy?

you can register at www.propertyshark.com if you want all the details of the building, in terms of public records. it's a free site if you only need to look at a couple of things.

This kind of creeps me out, but OK.... I'll only pay tribute to dead soldiers if you can assure me that I won't wake up in the middle of the night and find them standing at the foot of my bed.

I think that you are right Carnivore. In 1930 lived in that house 7 people...

I'm the only one. I am the only in my class who is intresting in the Second World War.

But the are more people in the Netherlands and in Belgium who have adopt a grave. There are people who have contact with the family of the soldier of the grave who they have adopted. I hope that I can get contact with the family of Lawrence F. Shea too.

Maybe is it intresting to read more stories of other people who have adopted a grave. You can look on this site: www.fallennotforgoten.nl this site is in English and Dutch!

I have a full screen high resolution version of the photo- these high res versions are available on PropertyShark.com as part of a subscription. The small ones are free. This is an interesting project though so I can get you copy of it if you like.

Hmm. Interesting site. I looked up my own building and it is seriously wrong with the year built. Building was built in the 1890s and they say 1940s. Oh well

There are 53 listed in the Brooklyn phonebook.

Is it possible to view the Brooklyn phonebook on internet? I have some names of Lawrence Shea's brothers or sisters. Maybe is someone still alive.
