Anybody want to hear about a home invasion robbery on Park?
paraderest
I get called names when I post "negative" information about the crime in our area so I'll leave it up to the audience to decide if they want to know about a "home invasion" robbery that occured on X-mas eve.

paraderestOn Christmas Eve at around 10:30pm a man called 911 stating that he had been stabbed earlier in the night. When police arrived that had realized that the stabbing occured more recently than the dispatcher thought. They also found out that the man had been beaten, robbed, tied up and left for dead. He stated that 3 unknown males bust into his apt. They then beat and stabbed him. At some point they tied the man up and stole several thousand dollars worth of jewelry. It took the man a long time to untie himself and call police. He was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries.
I don't know the exact address but it was on Park Place near Vanderbilt. -

That's easy enough. Pry the door open, pick a lousy lock, come through a fire escape or even through the window from the roof. It can be as simple as knocking on the door and saying "Land Shark". -

is he ok? -
armchair_warriori hate it when scums target old people, knowing they don't really fight back. too bad the old guy didn't have a shotgun. -

How can we minimize chances of this happening to us? I'm a single woman living alone with a dog that doesn't bark when strangers approach the apartment -
idlewildBuy a decent tubular or deadbolt drop lock (or a cylinder put in your existing lock) such as Medeco or Multi-lock. Get a ADT or other alarm system. Make sure your windows are locked. Look through your peep hole to see who is knocking on your door. Personally go down to the entrance/exterior door if someone rings the bell looking to get buzzed in. A NYPD cop or detective can also give you tips if asked. I believe they do this as a community service. -
washingtonirvingAsk to see ID for anybody who shows up to do any work without a uniform, marked car/van, or unplanned.
Call companies to verify that they sent somebody if you need to (Time Warner, ConEd, etc.).
Don't be intimidated to ask as many questions as you want/need to.
Make sure that if you have a front door to buzz people in that nobody is allowed to keep it propped open (my friend lived above a place that did catering and they frequently did this when expecting/moving packages....it's how they got into her building when she was robbed). -
museumlady230 Park Place is not a valid address -

What do you mean? It's a nice building and seems quite "valid". -
museumladyLooking at Pshark- it goes from 226 park to 248 Park.
Regardless, I do appreciate hearing about items like this so that I have a sense of what is happening around me. -
idlewildI used to live in 230 Park Place. It's valid. -

Great piece of advice Flexi never even thought of that. -

I walked by it yesterday. It's the large apartment building on the Carneviento side of the street.
Isn't that a doorman building, btw? -
idlewildYes it is. Have you ever seen the mural in the lobby? It used to freak me out when I was a kid. It still does. -

I've never been inside, but I'll definitely stop in and check it out tomorrow.
