Dummy Cops ?
I thought this would be better with its own thread. Let's think of some ideas about positive actions we can take to help keep the neighborhood safe. Two of my ideas are below...any other suggestions???
_____________
If the cops in the 77 want to get really creative they could dress up a dummy in a cop uniform and park it on high crime streets. This worked in LA for stopping people from running stop signs.
(please no lectures on how this isn't LA or street crime isn't running a stop sign, I get it)
Even an empty car might cause the kids/muggers to think twice before jumping someone if they think the cops are inside one of the buildings. Actually an empty car might be better in this case, because the dummy would give it away pretty quickly...not too hard to figure out.
Even if this idea sucks, getting creative and thinking of stuff like this could help and it isn't really that expensive or time consuming.
___________
Another thing that could help without much cost is to put up street signs around the neighborhood, warning potential muggers, bike thieves, etc that the neighborhood watch has private security cams filming you from all angles of the 'hood.
The sign in and of itself would be a preventative measure...it won't always stop stuff from happening but could persuade some to think twice about whether that quiet street really means they are alone. Of course those streets would need to be at least somewhat lit for the camera's if they aren't just a shallow threat.
On buildings, signs like "when entering this property you are being taped for security purposes."
On the street signs like "Neighborhood cameras helping to stop crime. Smile for the camera." With a picture of a camera or even a dummy camera...
It does seem a little big brotherish but if it stops you from getting punched in the head, it might be worth it.
