Anyone for "Scarlet the Harlot?"
(doh!
)
***edited to add: On second thought, the most unholy version that came to mind is actually Australian in origin (popular among Wallabies rugger fans), so kindly disregard. Carry on... -
No, but we do have the American version "Dora the Expl-whore-er".
We also have Thin Lizzy's "Whiskey In The Jar", "The Boys Are Back In Town" and "Dancing In the Moonlight", a haunting, haunting version of Enya's "May It Be", the love theme from LOTR. Van Morrison does a "Moon Dance" with a "Brown Eyed Girl." The Undertones get their "Teenage Kicks". There's so much more. -
Better not try to win that ham at tavern on dean: http://brooklynian.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=40919

Wow, I forgot all about that post. This is supersilent's big opportunity to sing in a bar, but she'll have to do more than toot a jaunty show tune to get ousted from Humans Against Music. She'll have to out-do the woman who showed in roller skates to sing OLJ's "Magic", that dude who rapped to "Eternal Flame", and that hairy Elvis guy who strips to his skivvies to "Viva Las Vegas".
Lend your voice to these voiceless track.
Thin Lizzy
"Whiskey In The Jar" (a song about drinking)
"Jailbreak" (a song about oppression)
"The Boys Are Back In Town" (a song about drinking)
"Dancing In the Moonlight" (a song about enchantment)
Van Morrison
"Domino" (a song about drinking)
"Wild Night" (a song about oppression)
"Moon Dance" (a song about drinking)
"Brown Eyed Girl" (a song about enchantment)
U2
"I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" (a song about drinking)
"New Year's Day" (a song about oppression)
"Pride" (a song about enchantment)
The Undertones
"Teenage Kicks" (a song about oppression)
The Irish Rovers
"The Unicorn Song" (a song about oppression)
Enya
"May It Be" (LOTR's love theme and a song about oppressive enchantment) -
No Pogues?!?

You would really need Flogging Molly or the Dropkick Murphys for balance on that one, but I can't help but smile at the lack of the Cranberries!
-
Pogues Fiesta dammit
(someone whip out a drunken smiley face for me) -
-
Hey hey, nice XX face! The only Pogues song I could find (as a voiceless track) was "Fairly Tale Of New York". It's such a sad sad song. That song even Enya feel like a beach party.

Bring it! You might have actually lured me in this time. Of course, I'll need a partner first and 2 shots of Jameson :P -

You have to do the No Use For A Name version, much peppier! -
It's too down, I'm trying to get the less suicidal tunes. Besdies, "Fairly Tale Of New York" is a Christmas song.
-
i think as long as we have 'the unicorn' we should be alright.
ideally, that's the only song that will be sung all nite. it will be pretty exciting to hear various interpretation of that classic, all done with "a brogue."
of course, people are entitled to sing other songs if they absolutely insist. we have a suprisingly robust selection of Dutch tunes, though no Herman Brood stuff. -
Subject: TO SERVE HAM
Ah yes, the elusive "Unicorn Song", green alligators, long-neck geese, humpy-back camels and some type of higher level simian... There's no monkeying around at HAM when comes to competing for one of our fabulous prizes. Who of you would not sing your pants off to win the classic dark comedy "Basic Instinct 2"?
More Prizes!
This Wednesday bill c. has a few more treasures for you. One of them is a Mr. Karaoke™ mic. This cordless gem requires no amplification. It has a few special voice FX: echo, more echo, off. Oh but there's more. So much more. Really more.
To Serve HAM
Second and third prizes are randomly awarded through the evening. You will judged by snobs (me and bill c.) on your note-worthy performance(s). The first prize, Krakus™ canned ham, will be awarded roughly around 12:30-ish, right before the Big Bohemian Finale.
Warning:
- canned ham requires refrigeration
- if can begins to swell, dispose immediately
- protective aspic layer must be washed off before consuming
- canned ham is cured but requires cooking
You must play to win and you must be present (and conscious) to collect. -
Her Ladyship The Empress Kroaky Song sends word from Northern Prefecture that she would like to have "Orinoco Flows" by Enya and "Bette Davis Eyes" by Kim Carnes at her royal disposal.
-
Subject: Enya?
Enya? Don't even know ya.
You may know "Orinoco Flow" (aka "Sail Away") from the Volkswagon Commercial. But did you know that Enya is Gaelic for "nut" or "kernel"? Eithne Patricia Ni Bhraonain (pronounced En-yah) was born in county Donegal in 1961. Earlier in her music career she sang with Clannad, a progressive Irish group. She later struck out on her own and quickly rose to the ranks of mono-monicer pop stars like Cher, Sting, Vigo and Judy Garland's obnoxious daughter. "Orinoco Flow" was originally released as a single in 1988 by Celtic siren, Enya. Inspired by the Rio Orinoco, South America's third longest river, this song became Enya's third longest song.
Is Kim Carnes even Irish? Anyhow, tell Empress her wish was granted. Mamacita and Daver also got their wish... if they dare sing it. Added to this March '08 list:
Enya
"Orinoco Flow" (a song about enchantment)
Kim Carnes
"Bette Davis Eyes" (a song about drinking)
The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl
"Fairy Tale of New York" (a oppressive Christmas drinking song) -

Humans Against Music (HAM) is your complete solution for a mid-week low-fi adventure. We have no teleprompter with bouncing balls, nor do we have a large video screen with images of people runnning on a beach. But we do have over 450 GET OUT! voiceless tracks, printed lyrics (please return then), and a whole host of mediocre prizes. The magic starts at roughly 9:30-ish, there and abouts. And even if you beg we end at around 12:30. Close out the evening with the Big Bohemian Ending. -
haha i no come. I spent all my monies on St. Paddy's. Sorry. Let the pro(fessor) sing wonderwall.
-
rajah is no longer ham-eligible due to his lifetime achievement in that category. we got his # and then retired it.
-
who won who bitched about me and who sang always?
-
Subject: Merci et Bon Chance!
J., here are your answers are in this order:
- some dude named Josh
- no one
- no one
On behalf of Human Against Music, bill c. and I want to thank all of you. Instead of a full Irish salute, this became more of an Elvis Presley tribute evening.
To our ham winner Mr. Josh for an Oyimic performance. You took down "Rapper's Delight" in a head-lock like a pro-wrestler. Hope you got your "Teenage Kicks". To second prize winner Head 'n' Shoulders, you weren't "Oh So Quiet" after all. Use your slightly-used Basic Insitnct 2 wisely (drink coaster, cat toy, bathroom mirror, etc.). To Eat Sh** 'n' Dye, such a performance has not been seen since Electra Woman and Dyna Girl saved after-school television! You are both born "Aristocrats." To Kroaky Song for his Billy Joel/David Bowie medly "Glass Spider House Space Oddysee", and Empress for her "Bette Davis Eyes", aren't you amazed at the futuristic ingenuity of the Mr. Karaoke Mic™? This soley-powered technology requires no electricty, it's soley powered on your enthusiam. Thanks again to the Table Two Family Singer for such group hits as "Wonderwall" and "Don't Stop Believin'". And to our regulars, Long Tall John, Mr. Roger, English Matt, Spoken Word Guy... there were so many more, but I barely remember the names. I admit I'd been drinking. CHEERS!
Join us next month for our salute to Edith Piaf! Merci et bon chance! -
i've got the legal dept working on getting us the trademark for H.A.M. I don't want it to be confused with the food product. We stand in the same relation to the pig- derived food item as The Man from U.N.C.L.E. was to the family member.
I found the EP bio-pic inspirational but not as good as "Edith and Marcel." -
True that, but I'd settle for a H.A.M. service mark if we lose an appeal.
People must be asking "Why a salute to Edith Piaf?". It's not because I found this Piaf karaoke CD for $4.99 in a J&R sale bin, it's beacuse the legendary Piaf was the Leonard Cohen of her time. I think he was even her accountant. "La Vie En Rose" is French for little pink plane and it's also the title of Marion Cotillard's cinematic performace as Piaf through the ages. Who can forget such memorable hits such as "Padam Padam", "Non, Je Ne Regertte Rien", "La Foule", and "L'Accordioniste"? Eh? -
Piaf Scmiaf. When's the Jacques Brel night?
-
Jacques Brel, the Gordon Lightfoot of France? I'm trying to keep this mediocre musical moment happy. Nothing worse than weeping inconsolably when you win a ham.
-
the world is waiting for a jacques belge biopic. mort shuman has already translated a bunch of the songs, and then there's terry jack's and rod mckuen's killer "le moribond" .... we need to have a JB H.A.M. a.s.ap, v.s.o.p.
i requeste La Quete -
Il nous faut regarder is a happy song. La diable is a funny song. Ces gens-la is a bitter song. Jojo is a sad song. Mai 40 is a trenchant song. Vesoul is a funny song.
