Sing Movie Themes and Win a Canned HAM! — Brooklynian

Sing Movie Themes and Win a Canned HAM!

Sing Movie Themes like Edith Piaf and Win a Canned HAM!
Wednesday April 16 20 9:30-ish to 12:30 there and abouts

HUMANS AGAINST MUSIC
Well, as you can see from this revised schedule, the Piaf plan is postponed until another date. That French guy Guillaume L'cârnè is a bit cheesed-off about the whole mix up — Edith Piaf's birthday is on December 19, (b. 1915).

Instead, this month HAM Takes You To The Movies with such songs as:
- "Unchained Melody" from Ghost
- "Moon River" from Breakfast at Tiffany's
- "One Tin Soldier" form Billy Jack
- "It's Oh So Quiet: from Ice Princess
- "What's New Pusscat" movie of the same name
- "Into The Groove" from Desperately Seeking Susan
- "Hallelujah" from Shrek
- "Eye Of The Tiger" from Rocky III
- "I Will Always Love You" from The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas
- "Ode To Bill Joe" TV movie of the same name
- "Edge Of Seventeen" Lifetime movie of the same name
- "Movie Of the Same Name" from movie of the same name

This evening might prove to be more popular than our tribute to Gordon Lightfoot! Sing low 'n' win big![/b] You don't have to be a movie star to win a HAM, but it couldn't hurt. So put some glam pants and join in the fun.

MEDIOCRE PRIZES!
First Prize: 48 oz Krakus brand canned ham packed in it's own juices
Second Prize: "Idiocracy" DVD, staring Luke Wilson
Third Prize: French's Spicy Brown Mustard and Grey Poupon Mild & Creamy Dijon

Join the Big Bohemian ending at 12:30. We have over 400 GET-OUT! voiceless tracks, but you'll have to show up and hear for yourself.

  • Subject: Typo on HAM date

I made a typo on the date. HAM Piaf is on Wednesday April 16, (not the 20th). I blame it on spring cleaning and computer multitasking.

A viewer wrote in: "Dear HAM, April 20 is a Sunday, not a Wednesday...TMI, I know, but I get eager when Edith Piaf and ham are involved.""

Emma, Humans Against Music thanks you for you careful observation. You've stopped us from giving the French another reason to hate us.

  • having a theme for each HAM continues to work in a reverse psychology sort of way. Our St Paddy's HAM guaranteed that no one would sing any irish songs. similarly, movie nite ensured zero movie themes would be sung. i am thinking we can just call the next nite French song nite and not have to bother getting any french songs since no one will be singing them.

a shout out to the 556 Crew. Their "Paradise by the Dashboard Light" seemed no longer than 8 minutes. (hereinafter: jets)

meanwhile Snack Attack (hereinafter: sharks) provided extremely strong competition in the Quest for the Ham.
  • Subject: I Can See Paradise...

I can only describe this month's HAM as a most exquisite train wreck — I shouldn't ogle but I couldn't help staring. I've noticed this reverse psychology situation about our theme nights. May be we can get that reverse psychology working for us by having a pro-arena theme?

Anyhow, the competition between tables seemed mighty fierce. Before this taxing month is over HAM would like to thank our regulars, Bananarama, Muffin Top, That Guy, our new regular Josh from team Snack Attack, and Team Snack Attack (all 12 of you), all the looky-loos who were chicken to approach the mic. But mostly our hats go off to Team 556 our ham winners. They not only won the ham and the Idiocracy DVD, they won a whole new level of respect that only three guys can get by singing "Paradise At The Dashboard Light". I admit the singing the entire "Billy Joel Suite" might have been to much.

To Team Snack Attack, we apologize for ending the evening so abruptly. But we're really old. HAM signs off with these memorable lyrics by monster rock mavin, Marvin Aday, AKA Meatloaf:

    Guy1:
Will you make me so happy for the rest of my life?

    Guy2:
Let me sleep on it I’ll give you an answer in the morning!! morning!!!!
I’ll tell you in the morning!!!!!

    Guy3:
Will you take me away, will you make me your wife?

    Guy1:
    I gotta know right now
    Before we go any further
    Do you love me?
    Will you love me forever?

    Guy2:
    Let me sleep on it

    Guy3:
    Will you love me forever?

    Guy1:
    Let me sleep on it

    Guy2:
    Will you love me forever?
praying for the end of time

    All three guys:
I couldn’t take it any longer
    Lord I was crazed
And when the feeling came upon me
    Like a tidal wave
I started swearing to my God and on my mother’s Grave
That I would love you to the end of time
I swore that I would love you to the end of time!
So now I’m praying for the end of time
    To hurry up and arrive
Cause if I gotta spend another minute with you
I don’t think that I can really survive
I’ll never break my promise or forget my vow
But God only knows what I can do right now
I’m praying for the end of time
It’s all that I can do
Praying for the end of time, so I can end my time
    With you!!!

    Now everybody:
It was long ago and it was far away
And it was so much better than it is today

    Just the people with lighters:
    It never felt so good
    It never felt so right
    And we were glowing like
A metal on the edge of a knife
