Alternatives to Cablevision/Opt Online

I've been very happy with my internet service but cable tv and the customer service at Cablevision is driving me to look for alternatives. I guess one option in our area is Directv but I've been told satellite service is spotty during storms and sometimes will be out for a day or so. If anyone has used Directv or any other services other than Cablevision, could you please share your experience? Thanks a lot!
