message board community
Hi! I'm moving from Prospect Heights to Kensington and I've noticed that this Flatbush/Midwood/Ditmas Park/Kensington message board doesn't get nearly as much action as the PH one. I wonder if it has to do with squishing these four neighborhoods together? Or perhaps these nabes just aren't as net friendly.
For those who regularly or casually check the board, what do you use it for, and what would make it more interesting/helpful for you?
I'm not a mod or anything, I just really dig that the PH board brought people together so it felt more like a community, and I am hoping to encourage that vibe as I move to my new hood.

Hi Emma -
The origin of the boards was in Prospect Heights, so that's the historical reason why there is less traffic here. Now that a Brooklynian (you) has migrated to Kensington, that should help kick start this board a bit! If you find out about any Kensington related blogs or other Kensington websites, let us know.

I wonder if new visitors to the forum have trouble finding this board, tucked into the "More Neighborhood Boards" section at the bottom? I don't know if these boards were placed at the bottom because there were fewer posters/ interest from those neighborhoods -- or if it's the other way around, that there's less posting on those boards because they are in a less visible category at the bottom?
At any rate, there are active blogs devoted to several of these neighborhoods, so I don't think residents of these areas are any less internet-active! -

There is KWTNeighbors@yahoogroups but it is not an anonymous board so is much tamer then Brooklynian. Also more parents on that board.

There's also this guy: http://www.kensingtonbrooklyn.blogspot.com/ and Emma, I see your email to him got him thinking about starting up a Kensington neighborhood board, which would be great. I would set up a Kensington board for him here, or he could help moderate the board, link to it, etc, so Kensington people start using it more. The latter is more realistic for now, since we generally wouldn't want to break up the current board structure until there is enough neighborhood discussion to merit it.
It's also no problem to move the Kensington board up, out of the "more Neighborhoods' section, if you think that will help more people find it and participate. -
I do have another idea that might improve the use of the Kensington board: while there's not enough traffic now to justify breaking out Kensington as its own board, we could "move" it to the Windsor Terrace Board, so it would be come the Windsor Terrace/Kensington board (or vice versa). I noticed in several places that Kensington/Windsor Terrace are thought of in the same breath, such as the Yahoo group (KWTNeighbors), and I notice that WTGirl is looking at this board...
So, do those neighborhoods (Kensington/Windsor Terrace) hang together better than the current 4-neighbohood mashup of Kensington/Flatbush/Midwood/Ditmas Park, and Windsor Terrace out there all alone? Would it make more sense to move Kensington and Windsor Terrace together? -

Kensington and Windsor Terrace hang together more then Kensington Ditmas (but it depends where you live in Kensington). Also FYI the "guy" is a "woman" who runs the Kensington blog--which has been a little defunct lately. And I heard KWTNeighbors has over 1000 members now.

Thanks for recommending the Yahoo group! I've signed up for that.
As for moving the Kensington board up with Windsor Heights: sounds good to me! I'm looking forward to getting to know my new nabe through all of these resources! -
hi. I think putting kensington and windsor terrace together is a good idea although kensington has wide borders so maybe some people identify more with ditmas park/flatbush/midwood. I don't.
Moving it up higher I think would help also. I think all the neighborhoods should be in one place. thanks for checking in here, daily heights person!
the kwt YahooGroups list serve serves a much different function and I think a message board would be great. I know kensingtonblog wanted to start one but I don't know if she's gotten any responses.
thanks ! -
OK, cat, I put all the neighborhoods in one place.
In terms of putting WT/K together: check out the poll that's currently global:
What should we do with the SouthPark ("Windsor Terrace" and "Flatbush/Midwood/Ditmas Park/Kensington") boards?

that's great! v. nice.
I think putting WT and Kensington together would make sense. Flatbush and Ditmas Park together. I'm not sure what to do with Midwood. I consider that it's own separate entity but perhaps those who live there would know what neighborhood they are best aligned with.
I'll go check out the poll...
Many thanks! -

That would be like putting Cobble Hill and BoCoCa togather; Ditams Park (East and West) are part of Flatbush as are Beverley Square, Prospect park South Caton Square etc.

When I moved from PH to Ditmas, I will admit I was a bit sad that my new nabe had a less active, more obscure place on this board (I did so love the PH section!). Kudos for moving it up with the rest of the nabe boards! I hope that will increase some traffic!
I did find this blog dedicated to Ditmas proper which is updated rather frequently...,so SOME folks in this nabe are active fans of teh internets:

Thanks for the link, lberghol. I can't figure out if I'm Ditmas Park or Kensington, so it's nice to be able to check all of the blogs:)
