Sunset Park-Off-leash?

I'm thinking about moving to sunset park in a year or so. According to the official nyc parks website, sunset park has off-leash hours:(http://www.nycgovparks.org) but I I keep coming across random websites (they are a little old) that say the park does not have off-leash hours. Does anyone here live in sunset park that can clarify this for me? What is the dog community like in sunset park? Thanks!

People have their dogs off-leash here before 9 AM. There isn't an official dog park (yet), so until then, it's one of the few places you can do that. There's also a group on yahoo (SP-DOG) - you can find it easily in a search. I believe there is work towards a dog park happening.

ok. That's what I was wondering...Just wanted to make sure that people don't get ticketed for having their dogs off-leash before 9:00. Are there a lot of people at the park with dogs in the morning?
