Forest City Ratner Harassing the Elderly - A Video

Comments

  • that claw is like a T-Rex at feed time on a wooly mammoth....I'm gonna have nightmares just from watching this video.
  • you're telling me. every time it drops that concrete slab you can feel her apt. shake. she's rent stabilized and doesn't want to leave but FCR is doing everything they can short of using eminent domain to kick her out. sadly, eminent domain might be in her future as well as many others' in the area. in the meantime it's just this noisy mess, day after day after...
  • where and when was this?
  • Today all day on Dean St. near Flatbush Ave. Her apt. is actually behind another apt. building, so that work is being done to a lot on Pacific.
  • I am close to this women. Of all things, I used to live in the apartment upstairs from her. She's a wonderful artist, a very bohemian spirit. She's from Italy but has lived in the states for many years. The shot from above was my old apartment. I moved from that apartment about four years ago(it was a small studio and I got married) but lived in the immediate area until January. One reason I was driven out was the noise of the construction. Began at 7am sharp and often wouldn't end until 11pm. It was also a complete stressor living with the ominous spector of ten years of construction. I loathe Ratner and the backroom dealings that slid this horrid development through the door.
  • I couldn't agree with you more on your Ratner sentiments, and I bet this video confirms your choice to leave when you did. The noise and the shaking are terrible from 7am into the evening. And it shows no signs of tapering off.

She is a lovely woman as you know, and she deserves better. I encourage you to email Marty and ask that he finds a way to stop the construction until the residents of those buildings have their situations resolved. [email protected]
  • Did you forward him the video? I was about to email him and to complain but thought it was important that he see the video and I don't know how to do that.
  • Imagine if your mother had to live like that....

    I hope a crain doesn't crush her.

I'm glad you guys are feeling me here. If my mother, let alone my grandmother had to deal with that day after day I'd be outraged. Turns out I'm outraged anyway.
I didn't forward the email to Marty. I figured if he got enough emails about it, he could seek it out for himself. I have emailed him in the past about the situation in general, and he's brief and sympathetic in his responses, but talk is cheap. So I'm hoping a group of emails about the same thing might help force him into action.
  • just sent Marty an email.
  • dumb question: is FCR in violation of any city codes regarding noise, demolition, or acceptable work hours?
  • I know her too and have even been in that apartment to hook up a DVD player for her. This is disgusting.

FCR contractors have been in violation of various codes at different sites in the footprint. One of the latest instances resulted in an injury and Stop Work Order a couple of weeks ago in the demolition of the Ward Bread Bakery (http://atlanticyardsreport.blogspot.com/2008/05/stop-work-order-at-ward-bakery.html)

I don't know if they are in violation in this instance, but I believe that using heavy machinery this close to an occupied building is a violation. They have been cited for this type of infraction previously. The resident and her neighbors should be calling 311 to report this if they have not already.
  • I emailed MM a couple of days ago but have received no response...
