Optimum/Cablevision out
So I got home from work last night and my Cablevision was completely out of service -- no home phone, no Internet (!!), no cable t.v. (Olympics -- argh!). I called customer service and got a message saying they are aware that there's an outage in several parts of Brooklyn, including "Adelphi/Grand Army Plaza," and that they're working on the problem. It still wasn't working when I left for work this morning.
Generally Cablevision's been a lot more reliable than Time Warner was back when I had them -- this is only the second outage I've had in two and a half years -- but this is really frustrating, especially during the Olympics.
Anyone else have their cable out at home? I'm online now at work, and I'm going to be massively peeved if I miss another night of the Olympics!

Hmmm -- I watched TV until about 1:00am last night and used internet this morning, so my service was fine. I live on Washington btw St.Johns and Sterling. Odd that yours was out and not mine.

I got home from work around 3am last night and it seemed to work fine when I got home.

Yeah, I talked with a friend who lives in Fort Greene who said his was working fine too. Guess I'm not hearing anything so far from anyone else whose connection is screwed because... well, their connection is screwed.
Though maybe Brooklynian just isn't one of the first stops for others like me who are getting in to work in the morning and trying to catch up on their Internets! -
i have the same problem and so does M, so I think it might be our building? I get the same message when I call Cablevision, not sure what the exact problem is. I bet its something with the new buildings coming up... maybe they knocked something out.
Its really frustrating... I wanted to watch the Olympics! and at least check my email... -

my cablevision internet has been going in and out for the past day or so. luckily(?) i don't have cable tv, so i could watch nbc with the usual fuzzy antenna reception.

Jaha tells me she got in touch with Optimum customer service a little while ago and they told her the outage has now been fixed. Guess I'll find out for sure when I get home tonight!
One annoying thing about this... one of our neighbors also called them today and the rep told her that "not enough people called last night" and the service outage was not reported until 7:39 am this morning. That's annoying, because I called as soon as I got home last night around 8ish. But because they had that recorded message saying that they were already aware of an outage I figured they knew about it already and didn't wait around to talk to a representative.
Anyway, so long as I can have my Olympics and my Internets tonight I'll be relieved. -
I hope that you speak to a customer service rep and let them know your service is out. when it resumes...you should call back for a credit for the outtage. when the service doesnt update at night, i get credit. i have time warner but i am sure they all have the same policy as far as crediting you for the time you were without service.

customer service for cable vision SUCKS!!! One day I came home from work to discover my cable line down and with it the anchor and some siding from my house. Cablevision credited me the time i didn't have sevice and sent someone to replace the anchor that hold the wire to my house but refused to repair the siding their cable ripped down. After cancelling the TV the woke up and after fighting for another month with them on what to do, the issued me a credit on my Optimum Online bill for the repair amount. Once the credit was used up I dropped them. I now have Fios for internet and Direct TV for TV.
Although when my contract with Direct TV is up I will switch my TV to Fios because I don't like not being able to watch TV for a few min during a thunderstorm(especially when I'm into a movie)
sorry about the rant but I hate the customer service at Cablevision -
Thanks for the advice. As mentioned above, my service was back on by the middle of the day Wednesday.
Fortunately I haven't had the same kind of problems calm head has had with Cablevision. I was a Time Warner customer for several years before moving to this neighborhood -- now THAT was some horrible customer service.
Howdy, Stranger!
