White Chevy Van on Dean , people sleeping inside

hey gang,

sorry i've been absent so long.


twice today i've noticed a white full sized Chevy Van on Dean st down near Vandy by the Diner. It had the 2 side doors open and mattresses with people inside. I was on the way to the Met and as i walked past I couldn't help but look in, as the side doors were open. 3 people were inside and a man very gruffly said "Hey do I know you? if not don't be lookin in here!" I laughed and kept walking. By the time I came back from the met they were gone. However I mentioned it to my assistant as she was walking over to my house and she said the van is back and there were people inside.

I haven't gotten a plate number and haven't called 311 yet. Just keep an eye out and see if they move on or if they become more permanent. Also see if they migrate thru the hood.

hmm...um..ok..I got news for you.. in the past few years we've had people who slept and screwed in a car in front of our building. We've had cars keyed, gas siphoned, and a laptop stolen through a window.

311 is for general complaints. That's why they are there. 911 is for emergencies I only call that if someone is bleeding or has broken bones.
311 basically says have a cop drive by a few times more often. if 311 gets a bunch of the same complaints then it becomes something but at least it's documented.

If you want to live out of a car/van on my block that;s fine but if you want to shout at people and give them shit then i'm going to document it. I'm not allowed to even park on one side of the street for more than 2 days without a ticket. You can bet i'm gonna use the system to keep those guys from bothering me on my block.

Maybe the van will move to your block... you can invite them in and let them use your john.

What is the difference to you between this quality of life and the quality of life on Vandy.

First I didn't see Herrick say they were fucking. People fucking in a bar is not the same as a public street where there is a transition shelter for families with small children, where kids walk back and forth to school, where the bus passes. If these people want to sleep in their van fine but as Herrick says if you show any propensity for nastiness then I don't want you near my neighbors. Plus there are plenty places to park a van in Brooklyn where you get peace and quiet and no one will bother you.

Well, and besides that, Soda, Barette, and Freddy's now make my list of places to not bother going to if there are in fact people fucking there. Really don't need that. And if I was there and saw it, I could turn around and walk out. If they want to operate a sleazy bar, that is there prerogative. Walking down a public street and being accosted would fall into a different category.
