Welcome <-- READ THIS FIRST!
Hi Everyone -
This message board is for the people who posted more than 2500 comments on the Park Slope "When" thread on dailyslope.com. Unfortunately, those thousands of comments on a single blog post was putting too much strain on our server (computer) and it was becoming impossible to administer it. This MESSAGE BOARD is pretty much just like a blog, except that anyone can start a new topic; however, Terry wants everyone to post in a single thread. Answers to your questions are below:
WHY DID YOU DELETE THE OLD BLOG? WHERE ARE MY POSTS?
The blog is not deleted! Your posts are still exactly where they were before. You can read the posts on that thread, but you can no longer comment on it. Here is the link to the original thread: http://www.dailyslope.com/2006/07/09/park-slope-when/
WHY ARE THERE SO MANY DIFFERENT DISCUSSIONS? CAN’T WE JUST POST IN THE SAME PLACE, LIKE BEFORE?
You can if you like. Terry recommended that everyone post in the same thread (blog). Here is the thread (blog) she wants everyone to post in: http://www.brooklynian.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=45182
HOW DO I START A NEW TOPIC?
Click the "New Topic" button. Remember, don't click NEW TOPIC unless you really want to start a new topic (and it seems like a lot of you don't want new topics)!! NOTE: You must be a Registered User of Brooklynian to start a new topic; click here to register: http://www.brooklynian.com/profile.php?mode=register
This is a pain. DO WE NEED TO KEEP PUTTING OUR NAME AND CODE # in every time we post?
No. If you register as a member of the board, you can stay logged in and you don’t have to type the guest code. (Also, some of you have Internet browsers that will “save” the information you typed last time; however, we prefer that you register as a user of the board). To REGISTER, click this link: http://www.brooklynian.com/profile.php?mode=register
ARGH! I CAN'T REGISTER. WHAT ARE ALL THESE FARM ANIMALS? I GIVE UP.
Don't worry. We will set up an account for you. Email your desired user name to [email protected]
HOW DO I POST? IT WAS SO MUCH EASIER WHEN I COULD JUST SCROLL DOWN TO THE END OF THE BLOG COMMENTS AND START WRITING.
Actually, you can do that! However, you have to Register first. To REGISTER, click this link: http://www.brooklynian.com/profile.php?mode=register . Once you are registered, you will see the quick comment box at the bottom of the post. If you post as a Guest (not registered), you will have to click the button that looks like this:
located at the top or bottom of the page.
HEY, WHY ARE THERE ALL THESE DIFFERENT PAGES?? I THOUGHT YOU SAID WE COULD VIEW ALL THE COMMENTS ON A SINGLE PAGE.
After a posts gets more than 30 comments or so, a new page starts. You have to click Next Page to go read more comments. New pages are started because it’s too much strain on the server (computer) to load tons of comments every time someone reads the page!
WHY DID YOU SHUT DOWN THE OLD BLOG? CAN YOU BRING BACK THE OLD BLOG?
Again, Daily Slope was not built to handle thousands of comments in a single post. It was putting an enormous strain on our server (computer) to load thousands of comments every time someone read the blog. Also, it was no longer possible to administer the board on the back end with that much data in a single post.
If you have any problems posting, please send a message to [email protected].
