620-622 Grand Ave — Brooklynian

620-622 Grand Ave

Does anyone know what the deal is with the abandoned lot on 622 Grand Ave between Saint Marks and Prospect? I know there's a stop work order on the place but the fence is falling down onto the sidewalk and people are dumping trash in there. It's also really dangerous because anyone can walk into it and fall 20 feet down. Calls to 311 have accomplished nothing. I live next door to this lot and it's been really pissing me off that someone has left it in this condition. This kind of shit degrades the quality of life around here.

  • that's nasty- I've noticed it as well. The amount of stop work orders in Prospect Heights and PH/CH border area are astounding. And they're all eyesores, blights of the neighborhood, and potentially dangerous as you pointed out.
  • I walk my dogs around that block, 626 isn't a prized pig either.

    I'll call 311.
  • if this is the same lot the gf was taking pictures of last year, the residents of the building next door report that the excavation undermined their foundation -- and indeed, you can see a big crack up the front of the facade, with one side tilting towards the hole.

another example of how developers never, ever care more about quick profit than about people or ethics. ever.
  • From what I understand this property is tied up in litigation. Apparently it was owned by a husband and wife, there was a divorce, one sold it without the other's consent, new buyer started building, non-consenting party filed lawsuit, currently in messy litigation leading to no work being done. At least that's the story I heard.

Wow. That scenario sounds like a perfect shitstorm that should be resolved sometime around 2030.

    Seriously.
  • I guess I can just look forward to living next to a landfill for the next 5 years
