  • The crowding has gotten bad enough that I won't go on the weekends...the last time I tried it was an absolute zoo. I doubt a message to the manager will be effective, but a bad review on Yelp might be (they seem to have quite a few of those already, though).
  • Yep. Shortly after unloading on the board, I hopped on to Yelp and posted my first-ever Yelp review. I noticed there has been a recent uptick in bad reviews.
  • All the reasons I have read above are why I go at 5:30 in the morning. lol I will agree though for the monthly membership fee the place is not up to par. Im a pretty heavy weight lifter and their weights section leaves much to be desired. There is only one of every machine and the weights are scattered all around every morning. I also dislike when there are like 3 or 4 personal trainers hogging up all the weights space with their clients. All in all though I go early and finish in about an hour and the gym is pretty much empty most of the time. Someone needs to pen up another gym in the neighborhood though. Although I cant think of a space of the top of my head where a nice sized gym could go.
  • I'm SO glad I don't go there anymore! I switched to Body Reserve and couldn't be happier. It's a longer walk from PH, but hey... I'm going to the gym to exercise, right? Walking there is just part of that. Never unbearably crowded, and much nicer atmosphere and staff. I hated Crunch!

(and btw, I am not a "schill" and have no vested interest in promoting Body Reserve, am just a happy member of the gym)
  • Subject: Atlantic Ave. Y

The Y on Atlantic is only $48 a month for NYC employees. I think it is 15% more if you aren't one. So cheap and a great gym with a pool. I know its a bit of a hike, but by train its only 10 min.

Rent a locker? Just put a lock on a locker and call it yours. It's not like they check that often. And if they do they cut the lock but leave your stuff which no one really touches. Crunch basically has all these posted rules which no one follows and which are not ever enforced (cell phones for example).

I used to go in the venings but it's a madhouse. And they have a DJ on Tuesdays. Who the fuck wants a DJ at a gym? I mean like 95% of the peopel have headphones on. But that's right, force me to listen to some bullshit.

So between that and my rationalizing after work every possible reason not to go, I decided to get up an hour earlier and go in the AM. It's much more pleasent then.
  • Oh yeah the DJ thing is totally nuts. Thank you for more loud music AND taking up even more floor space. Plus they leave the usual background music on, and if you're REALLY unlucky, there's a loud spin class going on. If you DON'T wear headphones, you'll go mental.

I've been making it in there mid-morning on weekdays, and it's a little more tolerable. The days I can't get there until after 5, it's annoying as hell. It seems to clear out by 8:30 or 9, but that's usually a little late for my taste.
  • I've complained about the DJ as well. Hopefully, someone from there will read this board and, if nothing else, save the gym some cash by firing the DJ.
  • I think someone there might be reading this (perhaps the shill from earlier in this thread), 'cause I noticed their Comments box had magically reappeared when I went yesterday. Though it's still a bit inconspicuous.

WOW, that's insane. I quit that gym before it became a Crunch (I guess it was called Park Slope Sports Club then) partly because the music was so loud that I'd get a headache from turning up my iPod to drown it out. Sounds like I made the right decision.
