General Pit Bull Discussion

whynot, you need to take a pill, man. i wasn't arguing one way or the other in regards to pits. i wasn't challenging the fact that pits, rotties, etc., cause the most dog bite related fatalities; i'm the one who actually CLARIFIED the point. but you were talking about dog BITES, and the data you found simply didn't hold its water. you want to enter this debate with stats, great. just be sure to pick the right sources. all i'm saying is some dude who makes his living off of dog bite cases is probably not your best shot at carrying your argument. i never said your case couldn't be made.
oh, and i apologize about not clicking the pdf file. i went to both of the web links you posted but didn't download the pdf. JAVMA is absolutely a vet journal. hell, it is THE vet journal. my bad.
but there is one thing i will absofuckinglutely argue about. would i argue that all breeds of dogs are equally violent? no, dude. i would argue that dogs aren't actually a violent species. other than some non-human primate species like chimpanzees and cetaceans such as orcas, humans are the ultimate violent species. -
actually, I don't think we've had anyone one this thread state that pitbulls should be banned.
If we were going to consider a ban, I'd think it should be on "idiots who own dogs".
Characteristics:
They train thier dog to fight
They don't pick up its shit, and let it pee on flowers.
They don't license or spay/neuter their dog.
They don't train thier dog at all.
They have a dog that is out of control, yet deny the problem.
(feel free to add more to the list).
...but, such a ban wouldn't work. And many dog owners are assumed to be idiots because of the actions of a few.
...suing the actual idiots would work, but they frequently have no money. Criminal charges often require malice or negligence, which are harder to prove.
Sincerely,
Owner of a 40lb mushball mutt
P.S. Humans are absolutely the most violent of animals, but that's a whole different topic. -

Charming and completely irrelevant to this discussion.
The OP didn't specify whether the animals were intended as pets or food.
Terrible, terrible indeed. I am an expat Brooklynite living in Germany now and they have banned pit bulls over here going on 3-4 yrs. Is there a law in place prohibiting these animals ? Please excuse my ignorance.... I've been living here 20 years away from Brooklyn. Thanks & praying for Lola. -
I actually had dog once (in Okinawa) about 30 years ago, I was 8. I don't remember it being horrible.
...I don't think I would it again, but that may be due how hard it may be to get in NY. ...or the waiter's offended reaction when I ask whether they have it....
