I can see the headlines: Chomsky endorses Obama. It's a game-changer.

right? absurdly liberal, wrote the books on modern linguistics guy at idiot-savant laden MIT says republican guy is not the right choice. er. not a shock. and any commentary on the economy or global politics is pretty predictable - the professors at MIT do talk, and most of how I learned to listen to economists or politicians in a thoroughly analytical way (not the ultra-feminist, ultra-liberal introduction to being angry a lot I got at home) was by getting lost in MIT corridors after 7 p.m. trying to find the computer lab where said idiot-savants had invited me to play DOOM and later whatever other stupid game came out. seriously, aside from the infinite corridor, most of those hallways look exactly the same. and thank goodness for dorky friends - I always knew how to play in god mode, which they'd figure out but let me get away with since I was generally their only access to meeting more chicks or being appropriately gothed out for manray. (though they all wore my skirts. funny, that.) anyway, chomsky, for whatever reason, isn't someone I really listen to about anything beyond linguistics just because I already know what he's gonna say - whatever he hacked together from articles his peers wrote and his paranoid brain came up with.
I'd love to know who sherry turkle is voting for, though. way cooler than old noam. and she did teach a class called "thinking about things." that is really badass in my book. -
so there IS a big long corridor at MIT...always heard it, never knew anyone who could confirm or deny...

I will say one thing though for old Noam: he knows which country has the best healthcare model for the US to copy. -

while a hardcore goth, I'm (and was) kinda bitchy. I once ran into a bunch of guys playing freaking magic (the gathering!!!) in the infinite corridor (where the steps lead down to where you go watch movies where everyone talks back - always looks like they're teaching first year calc in there given chalkboard notes still up when I'd arrive) chasing each other, dressed up like complete fucking idiots and proceeded to mock them incessantly. it's sad - I double I was ever smart enough to complete a degree there, but MIT is such an easy place to find someone to mock, or a window to look through and get totally fascinated in something random. and then there are the Media and AI labs. love. but never would have pulled off a cog sci/math degree there - too competitive and freakshowy. the grad classes are way more fun (only ones I took as an undergrad). -

and hey, if I'd focused in linguistics in cog sci instead of AI, he'd be my guru. poor guy. instead, I've got sherry and the media lab and absurd arguments about walls being conscious.
