Anybody use Boxee? — Brooklynian

Anybody use Boxee?

I'm updating my media setup . . . thinking of getting rid of cable tv, and now that netflix finally has ondemand for Macs, wondering if this could work.

Is TWC going to slam me for overusing the Roadrunner or something? I am utterly unfamiliar with bit torrent media use.

  • As the unofficial king of bit torrent, I'll tell you that there is no byte usage rate in NYC for Time Warner as of the moment. There has been talk about putting data limits on cable modem users but as for now there is none.

I download anime constantly, full seasons at a time on occasion, and have had no difference in my bill.
  • Wait, I can watch instant netflix on my mac now?
  • I put Boxee on my Apple TV, and I really wasn't impressed by the quality. However, that's when it was in beta, and I believe there have been some improvements made since I last checked it out. For now, I just hook up my Mac to the television and watch Hulu that way. IMDB also apparently is now running a number of movies for free, but I haven't gone there yet to see what they have. I'm hoping ATV, Roku, and all the others just start having Hulu and the other services as native to the set top box instead of having to hack it or find work arounds like Boxee. However, when they're trying to sell each episode for $2-$3 each I don't think it's likely to happen soon.
  • Just use bit torrent, download everything for free, burn your own DVDs if you want, and don't bother with all these "easy" digital services.

You can basically get any form of media you want on the net for free. do it.
  • H.264 + anime + HDTV = win

Agreed! Especially considering that most anime is being broadcast in HD now in Japan.

Gundam 00 looks amazing! The new Bleach episodes are widescreen too.
  • Mac Mini + eyetv + skywalker-1 + boxee + hulu + tidaltv = TV Joy

    thx for the encouragement, comrades
