Subject: Finding friends of mine early 1960's in Coney Island

I used to live in Coney Island, Brooklyn back in about 1960's, when I was a kid. A girl I knew at that time used to live in a house adjacent to mine and I would like to find her, as she and her family were really nice people. I however, don't remember her name, but believe it was something like "Mildred" but not sure. I lived on 22nd Street between Mermaid Avenue and Neptune Avenue (Right in back of the grocery store on Mermaid, but we were on 22nd Street. Her house was one of the three houses in back of the store. Hers was in front of ours. The number of the house may be 22-- or 24-- (last two numbers I don't know!) One house on the side of ours was Mr. and Mrs. Weiner, who had a dog named "Bob"
Also would be interested hearing from anyone who attended P.S. 80 at that time. In my class, there was a girl named Antoinette, a fellow named Irwin, Barry Finklestein, Vincent (He used to like to read all the time and had thick glasses), Antonio (or Tony), Joseph (both of these were cousins), Daniel Pisek (knew a lot about baseball and lived on 27th Street).
Are any of these around still??

I knew an Antoinette who lived on 17th street who went to Mark Twain.If this is the girl you are referring to I have no idea where she is now but we remained friends through college.

If you hurry, you can check with Jimmy Prince, the owner of Major Markets at 1516 Mermaid Ave., before he throws in the towel. He knows everyone in Coney Island. Been there since '49. If the store is shuttered, he might be found through the Coney Island History Project which is located on Surf adjacent to the Cyclone. They have designated him a "distinguished historian." If anyone knows, he does.

Thanks so much for the info on Jimmy Prince!! I greatly appreciate this, and just looked him up on the websites on the internet. Some very interesting information, even if I am unable to contact him. It is still worthwhile reading and viewing. Good actually for anyone interested in Coney Island and its history!! I may even go back to view these sites later and reading more of the other aspects of Coney. Thank you so much for this information!!

I also grew up on 22nd between Mermaid and Neptune...2865 W. 22nd Street. I knew Mildred (don't recall her last name). She had blond hair, as I remember, and lived across the street from me. The grocery you refer to was a Royal Farms store when I lived there. It was originally a Woolworth. I was born in 1949 and went to PS 80 from '54 until '60, and then went to Mark Twain.
