Pave Academy @ PS 15

Is anyone familiar with this charter school? It was started last year. I would like to hear from parents who have their children enrolled there?

Yes alot of us have our kids at pave and live in red hook. I am a parent of a child at pave, and I myself graduated from ps15 in 1990. I lived in redhook over 31 years and there is alot of bull talk going on in redhook about pave academy charter school. They just dont want to share the extra space they definately have to spare, so they're telling lies. maybe noone answered you because noone is registered with this site who associates with pave until now!

Um, yeah a bunch of lies like taking time out of their playground and lunchroom time.

PS 15 is an awesome school with great teachers and staff. All this "extra" space could be used for a computer lab, art room, or a new library for PS 15 kids.

No one asked the neighborhood folks about putting PAVE in the school. I bet if they had their way they would take over the whole school. Why not take over PS 27 instead?
Besides, this just seems like another issue to get people to fight over in the neighborhood. Why don't you hear about this kinda stuff happening in Park Slope? As long as developers and city agencies have no one to stand up to them united they will continue to sell Red Hook to the highest bidder.....

It is just terrible what Mayor Bloomberg and Klein has done in Red Hook. All that is happening there is fighting and it will continue until PAVE is gone from PS 15. No Peace at PS 15 ... when will it end?

Pave is not for everyone, especially if you want your kids to enjoy school. Long days, strict discipline, like saluting the teachers, and walking in straight ilnes. Lots of yelling at kids and pushing and shoving them. Good luck. Oh, and none of the white people who started it will send their kids there - that should tell you something. They getting paid tho!

Just think, 26 million from the NYC in the PAVE bank account, plus about 7 million Pave Academy said it raised, for a new school building, opps, the new word by the DOE is not building but campus, for only 30 to 40 Red Hook children. The rest of Pave Academy students come from outside the neighborhood as well as bused in from other boroughs. Now, the children deserve it but imagine putting a fraction of that money towards the 400 Red Hook students at PS 15? Nope, not a cent. Some get but most don't! The charter movement is so full of the haves and the have nots it is sad the government is behind this; they take from the majority and give it to the few. Is that fair with public money? The president, bloomberg and klein think so. It is scary to be living with this corruption from the top and most people do not even know about it, which I guess is exactly what they want along with the division of communities. With dividing the community, they conquer! The community loses what ever connection it had to itself...and the neighborhood feeling is lost with the haves and the have nots.

i have a child in pave and she love's the school.Pave is a good school my child learned so much in that school ok my child went into pave with a o in math now her math level is 300 ok so i know ya parents don't like the school but u know what i do if feel like why should your child learn and not mines.What need to do is let pave stay there till there school get done and when another school comes in ya going to wish pave was still there

Subject: PS 15 - A Disgusting Red Hook Situation

What a sad situation at PS 15.
Bloomberg, Klein and the DOE is letting Pave steal more rooms away from the children at PS 15. Pave gets 3 more years? To do what? Pave and the DOE hates PS 15 and its children and will destroy Red Hook's only public school that happens to be a AAA school. PS 15 had some space it used for special programs but now it will ALL be gone and the PS 15 community is forced to live with these strangers in their building. The DOE is even ignoring outside independent studies about the building space and situation. This also includes what everyone knows about the corruption involved here and the pay-offs between Pave's founders to the DOE.
Why 3 years? Pave said it will build a new building and move. Pave will never build a new building. This is why the DOE is really wrong. Building a new building is what Pave was supposed to do the past 3 years. Pave does not even have a contract or funding for a property from the past 3 years. The property they are eyeing has a lease on it that does not end for 3 years but I guess they can pay that store owner off as they did to the Red Hook Justice center and Red Hook Rise. As of April 2010, Pave never produced a contract at public meetings. I do not understand why Pave parents support this lie? They have been promised a building but they will never get it. The current Pave kids will be gone before Pave even puts a shovel into the ground. I do not know how Pave teachers can work for people who have publically lied? Pave will build a building when Hell freezes over! In the meantime the PS 15 school community, the children, the parents will decline and suffer knowing Pave stranglers are in the building stealing the quality of education away from them because the DOE said they can steal it away. The situation at PS 15 is a shame and a black mark on the Red Hook community and NYC.
