  • We will be erecting a statue in Grand Army Plaza under the arch. It will depict a cyclist holding a tablet with the meeting date and time. We are currently in the process of commissioning a sculptor and then we will submit plans with the Parks Department. Completion is projected for 2015.
  • Since it's Friday, and we have 8 votes for Sunday, plus a couple of not-registered definite votes for Sunday I now declare the official date for this outing to be SUNDAY, JUNE 14.

Let's lock the thread and start a new one (?) to plan who's getting there how and what to bring etc.

You have not filed a compliant Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for your bike statue. Due to the significiance of the arch, the Department of Buildings, the Department of Transportation and the Landmark Preservation Commission all must be consulted prior to commissioning a sculptor, or the submission of plans to the Parks Department.

A stop work order is hereby issued. You may not contact a sculptor, but still must provide a detailed EIS.

Once you have provided a satisfactory EIS you will be able to appeal the stop work order. However, guidelines on what consitutes a satisfactory EIS will not be provided.

Once the Environmental Impact Statement has been filed, you may appeal your Stop Work Order. The next available date for a Fair Hearing is 2016.

Pending the results of your fair hearing, your Stop Work Order may be lifted. Your sculptor may then work on the statue for 15 min per day on alternate Wednesdays in June wherein there is a full moon.

However, your sculptor must be a union labor that is from this month's chosen disadvantaged group (Dwarf, lesbian, muslim women of chinese descent).

A recent census determined that members of this abovee group are presently underrepresented among statue builders, due to the fact that the last known group member of this group passed away in March.

As a result, you must advertise on a worldwide basis to find a suitable replacement, or create one given DNA cloning technology that is presently being developed by Japan. Please be aware that using a cloned sculptor will require a seperate EIS, and may draw protests from religious groups.
  • SUNDAY, JUNE 14. IT IS!!

I'm bringing the sangria!! With barley!
  • I just switched out of my shifts for the whole weekend! Yay!
  • Someone send me directions. Easy directions. I get lost.
  • ^^

Note to self: Don't ride with Beaves.
  • Brooklaw, do you have room for 2 in your car?
  • Yes, I do. There's me, Mr. & Mrs. Whynot, and you two.

With two caveats: my young cousin is due to give birth sometime that week. She is expecting a boy. If he arrives before the 13th, the bris (a party at which the baby is circumcised) will occur on the 14th, and I will not be able to go to Bear Mountain.

Technically, the bris is supposed to occur 8 days after the birth, so I ought to be able to give you a week's notice. However, my extended family doesn't always pay attention to religious niceties, so I cannot be certain.

Assuming I am able to go, I need to be home by 6:30 (we're having friends over for dinner at 7), so I'll need to leave Bear Mountain by 5 PM.

I'd love the company if you still want the ride.

And does anyone have a landmark we can all find at Bear Mountain? As I recall, there is a large lodge with a parking lot, a very short distance from the lake. Should we all meet at the entrance to the lodge?

I should ride with you. I am an excellent navigator. You read the signs and I will tell you where to go! Is oksie coming?
  • Oskie will be in attendance! YAY!!
  • Are we going to attempt to BBQ this time? I have a tiny smoky joe.

Is Mrs. C coming?? I miss her!

Oooh. I want to go with you guys and oskie!!! Keep me posted on the deets!
  • Hoorah! Date is set.

So errrr... anyone got room for me in their car???
  • Mrs. C and I are coming, and I hearby claim 2 seats in Mahina's car (assuming she's coming). I'm bringing my GPS.
  • Christina - how are you getting there?? Are you taking the dogs car? Is there any room for lil ole moi?
  • Not sure yet, I think I may need a ride myself. I'm claiming a seat in Big Guy's car if he's riding up.
  • The Mrs and I are riding with Booklaw, unless he ends up on briss duty as noted above

...In which case our plan is to swipe the mother in laws car (located on the upperwest side). Mama and Papi are welcome to join us in this back-up plan should the need arise.

Nomad: You could join us, it's a Subaru wagon. ...but this scenario is only if briss boy makes an appearance.
  • If Scarlett and BB ride with me, there is technically room for one more (please note, me and Scarho are smokers) provided the fourth person does not mind being a seat for Oscar.
  • I don't mind sitting under Oscar, but can I trust you to actually go?
  • What about me?

I'm not 100% sure I'm going but I need to reserve a spot in somebody's car.

I don't care who I ride with. If you don't mind being stuck in a car with me for 1.5 hours , I'm down.
  • Em, bff, I'd offer you a ride, but my car only holds 5, and I already have four passengers.

    I'm sorry!
  • It's ok , BFF Booklaw. :)

If this is really happening and I'm not at the beach, you have a spot, I shoudl know my plans by this weekend.
  • Awesome. Thanks. :)

It's very likely that this is really happening. It has happened before.

What time are we going and coming back? :-k

    Will we bbq ?

Do we have a special time reserved for napping? 8-[
  • OK so I plan on bringing my clan also but am not certain yet. We have a new puppy and if she has not had all her shots we cannot go. If we do go I have room in the car for one person comfortable two if one sits in the middle in the back seat.

Whether we go or not I have a nice portable grill that you are welcome to use as well as a large cooler on wheels.
  • BRING BABY FOR OSCAR!!
  • Anastasia Beaverhausen wrote: BRING BABY FOR OSCAR!!
I have already been preparing her and have warned her about Oscar being the "playa' playa'" of the Brooklynian doggie posse.
  • any logistics?

Hi Stacy! Could I reserve that spot in your car - if you go of course! New puppy sounds gorgeous too!

(I wonder if we've met.... I did meet a Stacey at the first happy hour I went to about 3 years ago at Flatbush Farm... was that you?)
