Lucali's named 2nd best pizza in the U.S.
Subject: Lucali's named 2nd best pizza in the U.S.
Frank Richman picked Lucali's plain pie as 2nd best in the country in GQ's June issue. He has since eaten the artichoke and garlic at Lucali and says if he had done so, it might have made #1 on the list.(I'm embarrassed to admit I haven't eaten there yet even though it's only 2 blocks from my apartment - I hate waiting forever for pizza). Unfortunately, DiFara's did not make the list:

I finally ate there the other week. I don't know why, but I refuse to wait an hour for pizza. We got right in cause it was early. 2 pies and a calzone-65$. Maybe it was because I was killed by the hype, but i was underwhelmed. The crust is like 3 inches from edge to sauce, seemed like way too much bread. It was certainly good, but I dont get all the hub bub.It was sweltering in there as well.

Wow, what toppings did you get on those pizzas - caviar? The pizzas had to have been $25 each for your bill to come out to $65 with a calzone!

pizzas start at 18$, they aint huge. We had a plain, and then one with artichoke and garlic. the small calzone was 10$, there were a couple sodas as well. it was 2 grownups and 2 children. Here's a quote from a review from menu pages...
"I have been going to Lucali since the begininng, before manahattanites came over and Jay Z and Beyonce therefore, writing this review saddens me. To ease the pain of my husbands recent lay off we decided an inexpensive meal at Lucali would be best. Wrong! My pizza cost $41 after three toppings. Pizza should not cost $41. I felt ripped off and betrayed. The food and atmosphere are fabulous but I simply cannot justify a $41 pizza." -
Any truth to the rumor that Beyonce bought a place in CG?

Agree entirely.
