Voice Mail
Is there a better way to create an outbound VM message? We all know what to do when we hear the beep, so what's the point in wasting each other's time with a generic message?
"Hi, you've reached cellular voice mail of (insert name here). I'm sorry that I cannot take your call at this time, but if you'll leave your name, phone number and a brief message, I'll return your call as soon as possible. Thanks, and have a great day!" Uggghhh.
To make matters worse, the cellco message is even more annoying, and more of a time-waster. I have looked at my cellphone while listening to this message, and by the time it's done, it could easily be 45-60 seconds.
Why isn't there a brief, yet polite and professional (when required) way of accomplishing the same thing?

"You've reached (insert name)'s voicemail. Please leave a message"

If I understand what you want to be able to do is call someone and bypass the outgoing message on their voice mail system and go directly to leaving a message
That is going to be different for every system. For example If you call a Verizon Wireless cell phone you can skip to OGM by dialing 1, this will take you directly to the Prompt that says leave a message after the beep.
Many of the big Avaya VM systems will let you bypass the OGM by dialing a * or a #
Your best bet is to ask the person you are calling how to do it. For AT&T or T-Mobile call customer service and ask them
To see if someone is on Verizon Wireless check here:
http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/LNPControllerServlet?path=lnppromo1
but also if the prompt at the end of the OGM is to Press 5 to leave a callback number it is VZW, If the prompt is to press 5 to page the person it is T-Mobile -
Thank you for calling. Please leave a message. Say it concisely, upbeat and firm.
