Fire!
A firetruck pulled up outside my window around 1:50 a.m. I drew the curtains open and the pile of trash and recycling was on fire! It was a regular bonfire and the flame wrapped the bumpers of the two cars parked nearby and climbed up the trees to either side. The firemen seemed so relaxed -- but they had the hose out in a few seconds. I barely had time to close my windows before clouds of steam and smoke filled up the street.
One of the cars was trashed -- the tire had caught fire and melted -- and both trees were singed. The fireman -- from truck 280 -- said that "a kid" was lighting up of piles of trash around the neighborhood. The fireman gestured back towards Grand Army and up towards Sterling.
So where were the other fires???

So, our arsonist is back.
At the end of April there was a string of small fires in the neighborhood. See this thread (the main topic of the thread is about an apartment fire):

A neighbor on Sterling (I'm on Butler) saw someone and got a description after one of the fires:

I'll also post this on my block association's Yahoo! Group. -
Man, one of the cars is a green Taurus (?) station wagon that frequently parks on our block (Underhill btwn Sterling & Park). My husband saw it while walking the dog this morning and one of the quarter panels is totally charred and there's a donut on the rim. Sucks! These assholes starting fires are getting closer and closer to getting someone hurt. It was bad enough when it was garbage can fires and strollers melted on the sidewalk... now peoples' cars are being trashed. What's next? I don't think I want that answer.

Where on Butler did this happen? Any chance it was close enough to be picked up by the security cameras at 44 Butler?

Apparently they were checked and showed nothing. -

At least three cans on fire last night on 8th street btw 7th & 8th. More on 9th.
Judging by the sirens. Others between Butler and 9ths street.
8th street fire was also around 1:50am. -

This is so out of hand.

You're talking about Butler in the Slope, right? Not Butler Pl in PH? There have now been fires on both Butlers? -

I agree. This is crazy! I thought that maybe last night's wet weather would have put a damper (ha!) on our little firebug, but I guess not.
I think that 8th Street is talking about the continuation of Sterling Place in Park Slope (Sterling Pl turns into Butler Street after 4th Ave.), but fires between Butler St. and 9th St. seems like a very wide zone in PS. -
Again with the fire! 11:30pm, pile of garbage bags lit on fire on south side of Sterling close to Underhill. Thanks to passers-by on the street yelling "fire, fire" I was able to run downstairs and put it out with a few buckets of water (someone else had already called 911).
Fireman I talked to didn't seem familar with other similar fires in the neighboorhood, but said they'd pass the info onto the fire marshal. -

Thanks for being quick on your feet, arches. Now if only someone would catch these idiots...
