Macbeth on Vanderbilt - this Sunday, 3 pm

At 3 pm, the experimental theater group Dzieci (http://dziecitheatre.org) will be on the street performing Makbet – a one-hour gypsy retelling of Shakepeare’s Macbeth, which interweaves song, multiple languages and the improvisational exchange of roles among actors. (Bring a lawn chair if you can and plan to be involved in the performance.)

After a great kick-off last week, Summer Streets on Vanderbilt Avenue returns this Sunday June 14th with more live music, fun for kids, shopping and good food, and plenty of room to walk, bike and enjoy a car-free street from noon to 5 pm.

The day will start off with a fashion show by the Pieces boutique showing off some great summer fashions from its Ashtyn collection (12:30 pm in front of Pieces boutique). On the Summer Streets stage, a d.j. will be spinning vintage jazz, followed by steel drums, jazz soloist Jesse Goldman, and Brother Hijinx playing “sonic dub-a-licious funk.”

Kids will be out spinning hula-hoops, making crafts and riding bikes. At 2 pm in the kids zone, we’ll have double-dutch jump roping; at 3 pm Little Stretch Yoga will be offering a class for kids ages 2.5- 5 years; and Music for Aardvarks will be back at 4 pm. Photographer Virginia Freire is offering a free mini-portrait session for children from 1:00 to 4:00 pm. Families will receive one free desk top portrait.

Summer Streets on Vanderbilt hopes to promote a new type of open space where community members can walk, play, bike, relax, socialize, and come together. The event also aims to highlight the many cultural resources and local businesses in the Prospect Heights area. This temporary pedestrian plaza hopes to build on a movement that promotes walkable, livable, and sustainable streets and neighborhoods in New York City. Summer Streets on Vanderbilt is sponsored by the Vanderbilt Avenue Merchants District and the Prospect Heights Neighborhood Development Council in conjunction with NYCDOT.
