Dog school

I know this thread has come up before but:

Does anyone know of a good dog training school walking distance? We just adopted a stray from North Shore and she needs a little basic training, sit, stay, don't pick up the cat in your mouth, etc. She also hates the car so it has to be walking distance. Thanks! Betsy and Kevin

  • Yay for adopting! I adopted Jackson and another cat from NS.

I don't have any recommendations for schools, but we MUST see pics of your new one!
  • Hi Kevin, I'm curious, did you adopt from the mobile van they have at 15th street and 7th Ave today? North Shore is out here with their adoptions van. Anyway, thought I would share. I'm a dog trainer in the area and I do in-home privates. You can check out my site for more information: www.givepawdogtraining.wordpress.com. I actually specialize in newly adopted dogs, so let me know if I can be of help answering questions.

Congratulations on adopting your new dog!

  • empire of the dog is the best. call denise.
  • We just registered Kerry the wonder dog at Empire of the Dog, our first class is this Saturday, we'll keep everyone ahem..posted..on how it goes
  • Photos! Photos! Photos!
  • Kevin when did you get your puppy at NS - we got ours there also and she is 4 months now.

Oh and to mimic Flexi - Photos, photos, photos
  • We picked her up last Sunday, she's between one and two, so she's not a puppy. There are so many cute puppies and kittens there but we wanted a housetrained dog. I was really impressed with NS, they really truly care about the dogs and cats in their care.
  • So we went for our first class, it turns out that it’s the Empire of the Dog’s first class too. This was their inaugural dog obedience class. The first class was dogless though two people did bring their pups, there are 5 people in the class, a nice size I thought. They introduced us to their training philosophy, which is treat/clicker oriented, and they encouraged us to throw away our food bowls in favor of toys that contain food. The thinking is to make the dogs work to get food and to keep them interested. So far it’s working pretty well. Kerry the wonderdog rolls her kibble filled ball around when she’s hungry and she’s responding to the clicker already. I’ll keep you posted.
    Regards - kevin
  • My dog loves to eat out of toys (but this is only good for kibble). The busy buddy waggle is my favorite so far. I got ours at Target but lots of toy stores have them.
