Looking for holistic dentist

Am looking for a holistic dentist for my toddler, who suffers from excessive cavities. Any recommendations? Thank you.

  • My current dentist is wonderful and if he can't help, I would imagine his office might be happy to recommend a holistic dentist and I would trust who he recommends (I've had to use another specialist he chose and was very happy). It's Robert Rosenkranz on 8th Ave/3rd St in Park Slope.
  • I'm not sure exactly what you're seeking in a holistic dentist, and I definitely don't want to be a jerk, but I have a friendly suggestion:

Be careful about what that holism sometimes *doesn't* involve. One of my closest friends is an experienced DDS who finds herself treating patients who went to dentists who called themselves "holistic dentists." Her patients paid them for procedures like, astonishingly, "no touch dentistry," which didn't do anything about their cavities. (I think it involves flashing lights or something.) These patients had loved how friendly and attentive and pain-free their holistic dentists were, but they paid a lot for nothing. Worse, they later ended up in my friend's chair with really serious and expensive dental/medical problems, because long-standing, accumulating problems had never been treated.

So I'd just hope that whatever "holistic" means here, it includes all the regular stuff DDSs do, because if it doesn't, it can wind up seriously hurting your kid.
