Lost Bike Help — Brooklynian

Lost Bike Help

I know this is probably a long shot and it's not the first time something like this has been posted. My bike got stolen between Driggs and Bedford on N7th a few nights ago. The bike means more to me sentimentally than functionally. If anyone sees it, please let me know. I got the bike when I was a kid (when it was too big for me) and now, even though petite, am a bit big for it. So it's a red/yellow Giant Morph kid's montain bike...yeah...someone stole a kid's bike (and yes...I'm riding a kid's bike). Another semi-unique thing about it: the shape of the frame is square/angled as opposed to circular/rounded.

  • That really sucks, sorry to hear it. I had my bike stolen last month from in front of my apartment, it's one of the worst feelings. Unfortunately if the bike isn't registered there's only about a 2.2% recovery rate (im sure its not much higher for registered bikes). Do you have any photos you could post?

  • Definitely spread the word whenever this happens, because sometimes there is a good outcome!

For example, a friend's bike was stolen out of his building lobby recently. He mentioned it in a couple of Facebook status updates, and through that "word of mouth" it turned out that another nearby resident, also connected on facebook, had happened to spot the guy carrying the bike down the sidewalk with the rear wheel locked to the frame.

He asked the thief what was going on, and the guy tried to claim that the bike was given to him by a friend. But long story short, the good guy took the bike home. So soon posted a status reply on Facebook: "Msg me. I think I have your bike!"

It was back with its rightful owner without 12 hours of being stolen.

    So, don't give up hope!
  • Thanks everyone. It's a real crappy/violated kind of feeling to have a bike stolen. Here's a pic:

    And some specs
  • I know it's pathetic, but I found a better pic:

  • Not pathetic and good move on reposting a new picture, refreshed everyone's heads to keep an eye out, as I will remember to again. Nothing's worse than losing a bike. After mine was stolen this summer it killed me, I finally got a new one the other month. And then last night I got hit by a fucking livery cab driver coming off the Williamsburg bridge. He sped off, I'm ok now, my bike is wrecked.
  • ugh that sucks! So sorry to hear! I got into a minor accident with this bike a few weeks before it was stolen - I was riding in the bike lane on Lafayette in Manhattan when a cab passenger threw open the door the moment I was starting to pass.
I hope you're doing ok and I'm sorry about the bad bike luck.
  • hey i know this was along time ago but hey i think i found that bike of yours the morph kid mountain bike ya
