  • "progress" ?
    --------------------------

    What you call "progress"?
  • For what it's worth-

Domino, the pint's on me whenever.
  • I give this idiot about 5-10 more posts before they give up, never to be heard from again. Just like e. Imagine that.

Or they'll just create a new profile spewing the same bullshit on a different day.

    Get a clue moran.
  • Never said that all religious Jews are the same - probably one of the few gentiles that knows the difference between a Lubavitch and a Bobov. Nor are all orthodox "boring" and bland. YOU are creating (perhaps an expression of your OWN underlying feelings?) argumentative points as you go along. As for whether they consider me boring or bland - I doubt they would make the effort to know me sufficiently to come to such a conclusion

Yes - progress. That same concept as enlightenment. Knowledge. Growth. Striving to help mankind advance and look forward rather than withdraw inward, become self absorbed and only look backward.

The orthodox "chose" their way of life because America allows them the freedom to do so - without fear of pogroms or reprisals. If they chose to look towards the comfort of familiar rituals and antiquated customs - again, this is their right to do so. But, then do not disparage those others that chose to follow a different set of tenets and beliefs. Do not be hypocritical - do not shun the concepts of progress and freedom and then chose to take advantage of the same when it is only to your own benefit.

Sweetie, I am well past 20 - and a proud grandparent. I am blessed to have friends from all walks of life - and of all ages. The day I stop exploring and experiencing what the world has to offer, or respecting the rights of others to do so without fear, just plant my ass in Greenwood and let my friends and family have a picnic on my grave.

And BrooklynChimp - you are on. A pint of Stella - name the place.
  • Ok, i don't wanna argue about who is better or not but there are other alternatives to our way of life
A New Zealand Family Lives In Isolation

  • Spiritual growth is a journey not a destination - you continue the growth through your lifetime and unless your beliefs are tested and exposed to differing beliefs you will fail to grow. If someone's faith is so great it will stand whatever tests or comparisons are made.

I did not realize that you were part of the new Census - quite a few bizarre census changes to conclude that 90% of liberals are 40 years old, alone, still living with roommates and neurotic. And all are named Josh, Mary, Tom, Jessica, Michael, Jerry, Brad. Wow.

Hmmmm. Let's play a little game to test your theory.

Since you seen to have an affinity for Hasidim - let's try some of your prior statements shall we? They are all the same (easy, no?), all these guys and gals named Josh, Mary, Tom, Jessica, Michael, Jerry, Brad (Moishe, Miriam, Shlomo), they all listen to the same generic rock (Klemzer -sp? music), they all live in similar apartments (Borough Park, Williamsburg, Monsey) and wear the same clothes (wasn't THAT one easy). And they all run away when crime happens, hiding behind their ALD (Private Police or Block Patrol).

    Now you can play this game with any other ethic group - its call R A C I S M, or, in its more familiar form B I G O T R Y.

No arguments as to who is better, you just proved the point by posting there are MANY alternatives to our way of life - the goal is to respect other's people's choices in life. Whether that person choses to follow 5,000 year old customs, live in isolation in New Zealand or with three roomies in Fort Greene until they are 80.

    Unless Domino feeds him.

    Domino, stop it.
  • i'll give you 12 more years to realize that booze and pseudo-liberalism are not worth it. Go ahead, continue to throw your emotions at me - i'll reply with FACTS :elephant:

    e, is that you

    but with flowery emoticons?

No, it's just the fact that majority of Brooklynites are not leftist and they don't wanna waste their time on a site like that. I'm an exception because i decided to sign in just for fun , like most of you did. There are many people like E but they don't post on these boards because their posts always cause mayhem and disorderly conduct.

I will continue to post until i get banned, just like E was - where is that KGB admin? Come on, quickly, ban me !  :flower:

    Fort Greene?
Is it the place where they almost killed that college kid? I heard that they cracked his skull? Is he still alive?

If the females of the group chose (and I use that term loosely since a choice without a any options due to isolation or ignorance is not a choice) to forego the options available to women in modern society then so be it. If the group chooses to isolate themselves from modern society that is their election as well.

Cautious my ass. Denying access to knowledge via television, newspaper or other media simply enforces isolation and ignorance. 5000 years old... maybe progress is an alien concept and something to be shunned? An orthodox woman is not allowed to bathe at a certain time because she could pollute the drinking water? Yeah, have seen the desert on 53rd and New Utrecht - geez, hope the mikvah is still open.

Newsflash Vic - family is not just bloodlines. Although I am blessed to have close blood relatives IN Brooklyn as well as close friends that I have had since grade school, I do not see a family as defined simply in terms of marriage or birth. The elderly couple down the block with no living relatives are part of my "family" - and are frequently at my table for holidays and simple dinners.

No community (or FAMILY) can remain isolated or stagnant and survive. As seen in isolated villages within Europe, genetic defects became more and more pronounced and the offspring fall further and further behind - educationally, financially and just culturally.

Liberal communities have existed from the time someone first said - I don't agree, there must be something better.

American liberals come from all ethnic backgrounds - but in coming to American I think most people who were looking for a better life opted to adopted their new homeland zealously - encouraging a break with their past. They were proud to be Americans and adopt "American ways".
I don't see any PROGRESS besides a bunch of electric devices(PC, cellular phones), gas guzzling motorized hearses (autos) and superegos(a fancy word, thanx to Freud)
Going out is not a new concept, last time i checked it did exist in Babylon. As i remember there was this letter from one king to another where he complains about his son being addicted to alcohol, prostitutes and gambling. I guess nothing changed after all.
Every generation thinks that they are better educated than their ancestors and that they are somewhat superior. People in 1850's were thinking that they have discovered EVERYTHING in the Universe because such was the impact of a new technology of that era - a steam engine!

No, it's a Steam Punk computer.
  • Silly Druid - he got it from the Amish - y'know, along with the rolling fireplace. Only problem is that you have to wait for some Amish kid to deliver it during Rumspringer!

I must admit, Mod got Vic7777 off in two posts. And Mat thought it would take 10. Tee hee.

MOD NOTE: Victory7/Copilot7/other aliases has history on this board. It's much more complicated then it looks. just sayin
