Great Art Exhibit at Clover's on Atlantic Ave — Brooklynian

Great Art Exhibit at Clover's on Atlantic Ave

Subject: Great Art Exhibit at Clover's on Atlantic Ave

While combining daily errands with some available art / culture that our community offers, I am very happy for going into Clover's Fine Art Gallery located at 338 Atlantic Avenue in Boerum Hill, Brooklyn this afternoon - and I heartily recommend that everyone check out the curent "Personal Narratives: Diaspora" exhibit.

Five Black artists are featured sharing their personal narratives of race, identity and history. I was particularly moved by 2 sculptures shown by Brooklyn resident Noel Copeland. From info provided by the Gallery, "The Gunman" is a portrait of the artist's brother who was gunned down at age 26 in 1980's gang violence and the "Crack Head" is placed as a poignant juxtaposition conjuring up for me the power and lunacy of self-destructive actions. This is the first time these pieces are being shown publicly.

The other artists are Francis Simeni, whose acrylic and oil on wood panels tells a story of the brutal regime of King Leopold II in the Congo; Johnnie Bess, whose work portrays friends in their natural urban environments letting people be shown for themselves and not as stereotypes; Alexandria Smith, who exhibits a series of small drawings depicting the life of an African-American middle-class girl in present day society; and Tatyana Fazlalizadeh, who is an oil painter focusing on portraits of people who have affected her life and the world she lives on.

Clover's is showing it can really bring us some fine art!
