  • MHA is tapped out Sweetmex.
  • I'm in. I'll sponsor a bench.

If only to give whynot something to do (and to see "voodoo" engraved on the bottom of a park bench).
  • tada!

Funds for 3 benches have been pledged.

I am also pleased to report it was a lovely night for a scooter ride, and that exact prices are now available.

The stuff is sold in 12' and 16' lengths
    The 12' ones are $29.99.
    The 16' ones are $39.99

We'll be purchasing three 12' ones and one 16' one.

    29.99 + 29.99 + 29.99 + 39.99 = $129.96. Albany will want 8.5% for the privilege of us laughing at their ongoing dysfunction. = $141 divided by 3 = $47.

...which means I under estimated costs by $17 per bench, approximately 56%. :(

Sponsors will be asked to split the cost overrun with me: Folks will be bothered for $38.50.

    Now for fun with measurements!

We are purchasing 52 linear feet (three 12' boards, and one 16' one).

The top of each bench will require 9 linear feet. There will be 3 benches built. 3 x 9 = 27

Simply making the tops, we will use two of our 12' boards completely, and take 3' off our remaining 12' board.

    Is everyone still with me?

....we will have the one untouched 16' (192") board and 9' (108") left at this point.

We will use the 192" piece to create twelve 16" legs; four legs per bench.

We will use the remaining 108" piece to create supports.
    Each bench requires two 16.5 supports. 2 x 3 = 6
    6 x 16.5" = 99"

    108" - 99" = 9" left over

    Any questions?
  • Scheduling changes have also occurred.

Lowes will be visited on Sunday.

Construction will take place during evenings this week.

Photos of the process are likely.

Shamelessly gratuitous photos of Dude will be included as a incentive to read this dribble.
  • Whynot, if you could bring the bench over to the lot tomorrow, the gate will be open.

...I'm also doing some stuff tomorrow.
  • This thread is hilarious.

  • Whynot, It's like that scene in Pulp Fiction,,,,

Hey MHA, so you don't want to pay for a bench, how about you deliver one? Costs you nothing.
  • special update via iphone:

Home Depot carries a house brand of Trex. It is much cheaper, and I will be able to build them for my allotted budget of about $30 a piece. :)

....I even convinced my ride that they want to drive under the Gowanus!

P.S. Mama, I am thinking about the movie Groundhog Day. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Groundhog_Day_(film)

    thanks Zip Car!

    For those who can't divide
    108.75 / 3 = $36.25
Sponsors can pay via paypal. Just PM me, and I'll send you the info

The total is $38 cheaper than it would have been at Lowes.

    Coming soon....

    photos of people's routing requests!

For those really looking, you can see me through the back window...ha!
  • PM sent - I can't really see you xlizellx, but I'm pretty sure that's whynot driving. Where's Dude?
  • nope, xlizellx was the driver. I mooched some of her Zipcar time. As promised, we drove up Union St. with the 16' board flopping away.

So far I'm making one that says "Voodoo".
and one that will say "Team Ruiz"

...and I've decided to keep what the last one will say as special surprise for longtime readers.
  • today's update:

All of the cuts have been made.

The bottoms of the benches have been router-ed. Here are the two you are allowed to see.

All that is left to do is:
    A. Drill some holes for the screws, and screw the pieces together.
    B. Find out when the park/garden will next be unlocked.
    C. Get someone with either a cart or car to haul the things over there. (that someone could be anyone. It could be you!)

P.S. the slash you see on Voodoo's is just pencil
  • VooDoo's looks cool! You are immortalized my friend.
    Excellent job as always :D
  • Great job, whynot!! Me like!
  • Absolutely Awesome!
  • Although I have a feeling that Stacey and I will be constantly peed on by both man and beast over the coming years.

    LOL! :lol::lol:
  • Pee in community gardens is rare. ...on the otherhand, manure based fertilizer and kitchen-scrap-based compost are frequent.

Think of it this way, the bottom of a bench is the cleanest part. You are likely to get some gum stuck to you, but that's about it.

P.S. #1: Park organizer Stacey has access to a car. We are figuring out when the benches will get picked up.

P.S. #2: Your paypals have been received.
  • I also have a car, but won't be available until this weekend to help....

I thought about routering a line between the slanted columns to avoid Beavis ....but decided against it.

Many forms of VD make it painful to pee, which also correlates to the above conversation.
  • this park is right next to my as-of-saturday-apartment. cool. i won't let my dog poo in it.

    +1

    b. The benches and (obligatory photos of Dude on benches) will be finished tonight.

    c. Whynot will make a public appearance at Pintchik between 6:30 PM and 6:45 PM in order to pick up additional 2.5" Deck Screws, as well as sign autographs, etc.
