$800 room in a 2br balcony apt in Prospect Heights
Seeking roommate for a rent-stabilized 2-br apartment in Prospect Heights. The room is approx 8' x 10', with its own closet. Apartment has one cranky geriatric cat who's sort of "get offa my lawn... AND DIE!" about other animals, but loves people. Fully furnished living room and kitchen (bedroom is unfurnished). Ideal for students! Or just people without a lot of furniture.
Apartment Features/Amenities:
-Free garage parking for those with a car; bike parking in basement.
-Close to the 2/3, 4/5, B/Q, and C trains (closest to Park Place stop on Franklin Avenue shuttle). Close to busses too.
-Elevator building (6th floor of a 14-story high rise).
-Furnished living room and kitchen.
-Full bath.
-Sunny balcony; barbecuing allowed!
-Built-in AC/heat in each room (you control).
-Countertop dishwasher.
-Responsive staff of superintendants.
-Intercom access.
-Cable internet/phone via Cablevision with a secured wireless network set up for the apartment. May switch to Verizon when FiOS becomes available.
-Hardwood floors.
The building is newish -- about 5 years old. Part of the Brooklyn Jewish Hospital Apartment complex, with an active community (http://www.facebook.com/#!/group.php?gid=64716602588&ref=ts) of mostly-young professionals and a few families. No roaches or rats that I've seen. The neighborhood is in middle-stage gentrification -- not too many hipsters, not too many roughnecks, mostly just working-class families and young professionals. Safe - as a single woman I feel comfortable walking around late at night alone. Lots of good brunch places in walking distance.
Walking distance to the Brooklyn Museum, the Botanical Gardens, Prospect Park/Grand Army Plaza, the Brooklyn Public Library's Central Branch, and more.
About me: Single black female, 37, professional writer, geeky, very liberal, straight but queer-friendly, friendly in general. Nonsmoker. I stay up late and like to cook. Am very quiet (writer!) and relatively neat.
About you: Nonsmoker or willing to smoke only on the balcony, no other cats/dogs (fish and birds are fine with me, but just a warning: my cat is a very, very good hunter), preferrably female. I am looking for a permanent roommate who will sign the lease (must pass a credit check with at least OK credit -- building policy, and this requires a $50 fee), but will consider temporary. I would like a roommate who is similarly quiet and neat, but I'm pretty laid-back so as long as you don't kick my cat, have your sig-o over every other night, and throw a party every weekend, I'm cool with most things.
Total rent is $1700/month but since I have the larger bedroom I don't need an even split -- you pay $800, I'll pay $900 and cover cable/internet and gas. We split electric, since that's dependent on how much each of us runs the AC/heat. (It's usually about $50/month or less.) Need $800 deposit + first month's rent to move in ($1600 total). Looking to rent for July. You can come by and see it whenever.
