Language class/practice — Brooklynian

Language class/practice

I took Russian all through high school, and not at all since, and now I miss it. I feel badly for never becoming fluent. I conducted some reasearch on google and yelp, but I couldn't find any good programs or classes that specialize in Russian conversation through immersion (no English spooken). Basically I'm looking for somewhere to go weekly to practice and get more comfortable speaking. I suppose I could even do it online through iChat or Skype. Does anyone have any recommendations?

  • Yes. Dinner at Tatiana.

And that is all I have to say about that.
  • Also, I think most people learn a language best when its a necessity. My family once had an au pair from Russia, and she learned English very quickly because no one in my family's house spoke Russian (I wasn't living there at the time). How do I find myself in a situation, in Brooklyn, like a part time job or a volunteer position, where I wouldn't need to be bilingual to perform the job, but I would only be spoken to in Russian? (Another example, my boyfriend worked in construction in the south with a lot of Latino guys, who only spoke Spanish. Though he was their boss, he eventually became really conversational in Spanish because that was the only way to communicate with them, but it wasn't required for the job because other people there didn't speak a lick of Spanish). So, any ideas for that, also?
