SURRENDERING PEPPER — Brooklynian

SURRENDERING PEPPER

Comments

  • This is heartbreaking to watch. Did anyone ever consider finding a way to keep this senior dog with his owner instead of breaking his heart by taking him away from his home? Why not do a chip-in to pay for treatment. The owner really loves this dog as we can see , and I am sure that he thought that this was his only option. As rescuers, you know how stressful it is on an oldr pet to lose its home. Maybe you should post something about you guys re-homing a shelter pet as this video DOES NOT SHOW SEAN CASEY IN THE BEST LIGHT. In this economy, we should try to help people keep their pets, not break their heart. The family that adopted Pepper could have adopted a shelter pet and saved a life. Instead, they may watch a depressed older dog miss his dad.
  • The poor old man couldn't take care of him, good for Sean Casey for stepping in and helping. The man needs to take care of himself, and can't take care of a pet right now. Blessing to all of them for reaching out and thinking of Pepper first. I'm guessing that this man couldn't afford his pet even if he was able to get money for the surgery. It takes a strong person to think of their loved ones first.

Rescue groups are struggling in this economy, people are giving away their pets (not by choice but by need). No one is chipping in for treatments or sponsorships. It's sad times. There are a couple of people on this board that do rescues and have little to no financial support. It's easy to judge Princess, but go out there and take part, volunteer, give a part of your paycheck every month. These animals need kind people like Sean and the financial support of the community.
  • While I understand how heartbreaking this is I have to say that Sean Casey is one of the few animal rescues that will help in situations like this. ASPCA will take the dog in and possibly put it to sleep - same with ACC. I think Sean Casey and his animal "super heroes" are an invaluable asset to this community. You really should look at all the work they have done before you make your statement. I am not being snarky just want to show you how wonderful this organization is.
  • I couldn't watch the whole thing, I'm at work with tears in my eyes, I knew if I watched any more of the scene with them saying goodbye I'd totally lose it. I do wish there were ways for people who love their pets to get help caring for them. My heart goes out to the original owner, and my appreciation (and some $ when I stop by your halloween party) to Sean Casey for helping.
  • Just because I have a different view on what should have been done , you assume that I sit in judgement of SC rescue without doing my part. On the contrary, I foster dogs , donate funds to various shelters for transport and boarding , donate blankets and bedding , sponsor dogs at the CACC , buy pet food to offset the cost for the elderly and have even paid for an elderly neighbour to set her dogs broken leg. I do not have a 501c3 of my own but I always do what I can to help. Like everyone else in this economy , I don't have as much as I used to so my donations are less than they used to be. At present I have 2 rescue dogs and 2 rescue cats but in the past have had as many as 8 large rescue and stray dogs at once. It is my years long experience with animals that led me to think of the stress of the elderly dog in not being able to find his owner. Sometimes, in our zeal to help the animal we overlook the human. This dog seemed to be all this man had and i feel that they should have been kept together. Many owners can pay for the day to day care of their pet but not an emergency. That does not mean that they should have to lose their pet. because of that. There are indeed people who do chip ins for vet care, maybe not as many now but we are out there. I know that Sean Casey does great work. I have donated to them in the past and I will again. I just think that we need to try when possible ,to keep pets in their loving homes . That way ,we can focus on finding homes for the truly homeless.
