As NYC celebrates its 41st Annual Marathon, Greece celebrates 2,500 years of marathon running, which originated in Greece in the year 490 B.C. when a Greek soldier was tasked with running from the town of Marathon to Athens to deliver news of victory over the Persians. Every year since this legendary run, Greeks have celebrated the achievement with a long-distance running competition that has developed into the modern-day marathon that is now run in cities all over the world.

Join Kellari Taverna in Midtown (19 West 44th St.) and Kellari Parea Bistro in Gramercy (36 East 20th St.) this weekend as we celebrate this historical event and the athletes who come from all over the city, the country and the world to participate in the New York City Marathon.
