Does Geido Still Have That Icky Carpet? — Brooklynian

Does Geido Still Have That Icky Carpet?

Okay, I used to enjoy traveling into Prospect Heights to partake of interesting culinary creations at Geido Sushi. Unfortunately, I had to stop going because the carpet in the dining room was filthy. Filthy like my the bottom of my shoes would stick to the floor as I walked filthy. Maybe it's not a major problem for some people, but my husband won't even agree to take out from Geido because of that lousy carpet. I think they have good food and that the prices are relatively reasonable. It's been a while and I miss it. If by chance anyone out there knows if the carpet has finally been changed, let me know. I was thinking about writing them a letter about the carpet. Maybe I will. I just highly doubt that any re-decorating will happen because of it. :-k

  • Yes, I thinks it's the same. If it's any comfort, Geido did get an "A" from the City Health Department.

  • Thank you. We never doubted the quality of the food - it's just the carpet. To be honest, we aren't usually particularly swayed by the letter grades - (which is a whole topic unto itself) but it's good to know that at the time that the health inspector visited, they got an A. Maybe in this case the letter grade will help us to get over being all weirded out over the carpet...Okay, no, that's not going to happen. The carpet will still freak us out, but maybe now I can convince my hubby to do take out!

  • Why don't you contact Geido management to tell them, as a long-time customer, that the dirty carpet has become an impediment to your coming? Perhaps they're not aware of how gross it is.....

  • I have been going to Geido for 20 years. Before the onslaught of high end sushi in Brooklyn there was Geido and its quality has remained remarkably consistent during this period. It is distinguished by a warm, inviting atmosphere embodied in the person of Osamu its owner and chef. The facts of its continued success as evidenced by the crowds that mix with the many regulars and the rotating cast of Japanese wait staff speaks for itself. The sushi is of high quality. Now, you may better sushi in Prospect Heights... and there is better sushi in Park Slope, but none of these places can create the feeling of community and friendship that exist at Geido. Forget the rug....I have seen many bad rugs at Geido....they get replaced eventually....come to Geido to feel at home. It is Brooklyn to me.

This is exactly what happened a few doors down at El Castillo de Jagua. Somebody saw the nasty pictures of their "meat vent" overlooking Flatbush Ave. here on Brooklynian, and within a few days, they scrubbed it clean. The mighty wind of meat (Carneviento) still blows on Flatbush, however.
