Dog Found in Park This Morning

Crossposting with permission from the OP on Park Slope Parents - moderator, can you make this a sticky for a couple of days? I will fwd messages to the OP.

We found a dog at 8:30 this morning at the Eastern end of Prospect Park. Collar but no tags. Super friendly. Asked around Neathemead, know one knew him. He's a medium sized brown and white mix, seems young, but trained, friendly and a bit shy around other dogs.

Please send this out to other list serves (Windsor Terrace or Prospect Heights possibly) so we can find the owner.

Fido, and Animal Control have been alerted. Waiting for Sean Casey to open to let them know. Other suggestions welcome.

He's currently snoozing on my couch.

If you are the owner or know the owner please call me, it's faster; (number removed)

  • Is this the fabled Prospero?

  • Definitely not. He's got no white, no collar, is large-xlarge, and is not friendly.

  • Ok- I got an alert a couple of days ago for a female dog:

    SPECIES:DOG

    BREED:PITBULL

    PET NAME:AMBER

    LOST:03/05/2011

    AGE:6 MONTHS

    PRIMARY COLOR:LIGHT BROWN

    SECONDARY COLOR:WHITE

    WEIGHT:30

    SEX:F

    MICROCHIP #:985121006736438

    LAST SEEN:

    BROOKLYN, NY 11218 BEVERLY ROAD

    OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:

WHITE SPOT ON CHEST & PAWS. WEARING A BROWN LEATHER COLLAR & METAL CHAIN COLLAR.

But if he's a he, like you said, I guess it's not Amber...

  • Here's an update and hopefully a happy ending - also crossposted from PSP. Thanks everyone!

Sean Casey scanned him for a microchip, which he did have. His owner was contacted. SC promised that they would not release him to the owner if they had any suspicions that he wasn't taking proper care of the dog. (He was not lost in PP, but let out off leash on Flatbush Avenue. Very Scary!) But looks like the dog will be on his way home. Hope it's a good one. I'll will check back to make sure.

Meanwhile 3 people have offered to foster him...

Thank you everyone, for offering advice as to where to reach out, and help.

Dogs in Brooklyn, we got your backs!
