Local caterers for a small apartment party — Brooklynian

Local caterers for a small apartment party

I know I could go on Chowhound, but I thought I'd try the neighborhood, first. I'm planning a party for about 30 people in my apartment and I'd like to hire a caterer. I'm open to a variety of cuisines as long as there are some vegetarian options.

Thanks!

  • The Islands!

Get oxtail, curry goat or chicken, jerk lamb. They do mixed veg with tofu, macaroni pie, cabbage, rice and peas for the vegetarians. I think the coconut shrimp doesn't hold well (too easily over cooked) but people like that too. They provide the serving tray stands and allathat.

  • A lot of restaurants have a catering option, so if you have a favorite place, you could ask them. I'm pretty sure Coco Roco and DUB Pies both have an option (I've even been to a party with the tasty pies that were kept in a heated case.). I know those aren't PH, but I don't think it matters in this case.

Also, some grocery stores like Fairway offer catering and that might be more budget friendly but I've never really looked into it enough to know for sure.

  • We didn't have it catered per-say, but Chavellas put together some trays of food for us for a party. I agree with OpossumQueen and call your favorite restaurant and see if they can do something for you.

I just ordered from The Islands for the first time. Delicious ox-tails and curry vegetables.

If Caribbean isn't your thing, maybe D'Vine Taste and Mr. Falafel in Park Slope would be. They're Lebanese and Egyptian, rspectivelly and they'll certainly have some delicious veggie options as well as some great meat and feta cheese platters.

  • Do you want someone to be at your house to do some prep and to serve the food, or do you just want the food?

  • I've had food from this guy at local dinner parties and he knows what he's doing.

  • Don't need serving; trying to save space for the guests!

  • I'm pretty sure Miriam in Park Slope caters. They have so many small plates (or mezzes) to choose from which would be great for a party.

  • I want to have a party just to have Super Wings bring trays of every flavor to my house.
