Movers. Storage. Bed Bugs. — Brooklynian

Movers. Storage. Bed Bugs.

barnable
edited November -1 in Prospect Heights

My girlfriend is moving in with me while putting a fair amount of her stuff in storage and I would love some recommendations for moving companies and thoughts on the storage place on Washington & Atlantic, you know, the big ass place. We are concerned that in between moves, those lovable bugs might have made the moving van we use home and then will delightfully attach themselves to her stuff and then to my life. Any thoughts/suggestions/whatevs would be appreciated. Thanks.

  • I think that yours is a legitimate concern. I would absolutely insist on a mover and storage facility who addressed the issue proactively. I would not deal with anyone who claimed that it was not a problem. They must be willing to articulate their defensive practices and what you should do, too. Spare no expense. Because however much it costs now is less than dealing with an infestation.

  • Wait, so the storage place gave her bed bugs?

    Ughh!!!

How does one even address with movers what they do to prevent bed bugs???

My advice -- wrap ALL FURNITURE with PLASTIC WRAP. Seal it in good!!!

Then DO NOT use cardboard boxes (yes, bed bugs can get in them!) --- invest in plastic storage bins. Or if oyu have to use cardboard boxes, seal them in plastic wrap too.

  • wait a minute. just to clarify... the big place on the corner of atlantic and underhill gave your girlfriend bedbugs? or you fear that your moving company will have bedbugs...?
