TWELVE
TWELVE ARTISTS FROM ULSTER COUNTY
Brooklyn, NY, April 25, 2011 – Ulster Country has the largest concentration of artists per capita of anywhere in the country. The amount of talent and critically acclaimed work is astonishing. Brooklyn Artists Gym is proud to bring the work of twelve top artists to the city for two weeks, starting May 14.
From the rich, iconic images of Yale Epstein to the darkly playful figures of Polly Law, from the mysterious mixed-media drawings of Meredith Rosier to the mythical ceramics of Kim Alderman, from the luscious and moving photographs of Bernard Gerson to the extraordinary assemblages of Lenny Kislin, TWELVE mixes powerful works that end up in surprising conversations with each other.
The other artists featured in TWELVE are Chris Hawkins (expressionist, painterly figures), Anique Taylor (colorful wall sculptures exploring women’s journeys), Kate McGloughlin (minimalist monoprint landscapes), Leslie Bender (prints evoking childhood memories), Mark Kanter (dynamic, rhythmic abstractions) and Rosalind Robertson (evocative works on paper created in the ocean). The show has been curated by Christie Scheele, the well-known Hudson-valley artist, and Peter Wallace, the founder of BAG.
Part of the mission of the BAG Gallery is to create dialogues between artists and their audiences in a way that everyone benefits and enjoys. This begins with the opening on Saturday, May 14, from 6-9 p.m. when most of the artists will be there. The show continues through May 25th. The gallery, at 168 7th St. in Brooklyn, is open 12-6 Monday through Saturday, and by appointment. All the work is available for purchase. This is a unique opportunity to view Ulster County artists of such quality in one place.
These artists have shown all over the country, indeed all over the world. They have been lauded by critics in every conceivable venue and medium. They are collected both privately and by museums. We are honored to have them.
